Ohhh he's looking nice. He looks pretty mean in that coloured picture. I'm sure TMUK/MTMTE fans will be delighted.

Wow. He is tiny, isn't he? And whilst I'm disappointed that he clearly doesn't actually contain Saber's face, I'm also not surprised - I think that would've been a big ask to try to achieve that, even for a Masterpiece. I think if they had managed it then the whole figure would've had to have been a lot bigger, so I'm happy with this is a compromise. At least they put him in there...

Yeah without losing head articulation it would have been a big ask. Seeing the size difference was a shock tro me, but. Shouldnt have been, much as i like the original it is not the best proportioned toy out there.

Hmm I still think it's possible that Victory Leo will fit this guy.
Some comments on TFW about how white and unstickered the G1 toy is in those photos has people speculating about a reissue. More than likely its just a particularly nice G1 original which dont seem to be that hard to find in Japan, but a Victory Sabre Encore release at some point after the Masterpiece would be good and a compatible Victory Leo would certainly be a strong selling point.

Yeah, I was thinking about VL too. Do you think they will have the capacity for a potential MP VL to combine, let it combine with the original, or neither?

VL clips on to SS in a pretty simple way, at least to my memory, MP SS foot is bigger, but if it could be folded away I honestly don't think it would be that hard for the designer to have made MP SS compatible with VL without even telling anyone. But the shoulder protrusions would have to be the same size more or less and be the same distance apart. Those comparison photos are no help, but I dont think they rule it out.
More than likely though I'm sure Star Sabre will have been designed with the option for MP VL.

Star Saber finally gets a number - 24.
See elsewhere for the other toy on that page!

March 2015 at 18000 Yen. Which is roughly £170 at today's rate, so expect him to be around £230 - £250 to buy here.

£170? Google (and a couple of other websites) are telling me that that's closer to £104. Which of us is right..?
Either way though, March next year? That should get here in time for May. Happy birthday to me. :-)

Magnus is 18000 Yen too, so whatever you're seeing for his pre-order price Star Saber should be the same. Which is £120-£130 bought from UK sellers like Omegalock. Robot Kingdom are doing Magnus currently for about £90 before shipping and import VAT.

Sweet. This is actually cheaper than I was expecting - I thought he'd cost more than Magnus, due to what appears to be the additional complexity. But... Yay!

That said, it says something that we've finally gotten to the point when dropping three figures on a toy is no longer something to be worried about...

I don't know if it's "not to be worried about" so much as "no longer out of the ordinary". I find that an inflation calculator helps me to process how much things cost compared to back in the day. According to the site, £104 now translates to about £40 in 1987 money, so if this guy had been released at the same time as the original Scorponok he'd be about the same price. He'll be a bit smaller but much more intricate than ol' Scorpy so it's not unreasonable. Meanwhile, a £40 MP car like Wheeljack translates to about £16-odds in 1987 money. I remember Darkwing and Dreadwind being £16.99 back in the day, so they sound like a pretty good deal! -Nick

Bah! I'm a middle-aged Englishman! Mine is the right to complain about things not being as good as once they were! Don't attempt to confuse me with talk of logic and inflation and facts!
But yeah, you're right. Inflation, rising oil prices, etc, are all a factor. And it's nice to know that we're actually not losing out, and are possibly getting a pretty good deal. It doesn't stop it from being psychologically intimidating, though. I remember, in my day... ;-)

That said, it says something that we've finally gotten to the point when dropping three figures on a toy is no longer something to be worried about... Yeah. That's one of those things that's either brilliant or horrifying depending on your mood. Imagine being able to whisper in your ten year old self's ear, and "Don't worry, your mum may not give you a pocket money advance from the housekeeping to get that Bumblebee now, but give it thirty years and you'll not only have that one but about 30 others too."

A little thanks. Had to dig VS out to have a proper look and it would be even easier than I had thought all it needs is for the leg to be the same depth with a hole at the back and with the foot retracted a peg of some kind on the front. The torso just needs the raised bits on the shoulders the same distance apart and for the torso to be the same length so that the latch on the bottom can clamp VL to SS back, actually it probably doesnt even need that last bit for it to just sit in place. The added torso articulation might complicate the connection and VL would generally limit the articulation of the ankle and torso, but if they haven't done it, it's a wasted opportunity. Even if it hasn't been made back compatible I really think its easy enough that I expect a third party to to make an adaptor kit, heck a big blob of blutack would probably do the trick.

My God... if an original Victory Leo is compatible with MP Star Saber... remember what Nick Roche and James Roberts did to the price of Overlords after LSOTW? Basically that.
