Mine should finally arrive today. This feels a little like Christmas.

Contrary to expectation, I was patient. And now I have the joy of two Masterpiece zealots on my shelves. Get to dah twittahs![/quote] The best thing about him, though, really has to be that little spring-clip that keeps the large robot helmet attached to the V-Star until needed. So simple, but so clever. He really is quite wonderful.

It's a very nice toy indeed and I do like that photo, well staged.

I'm having mixed feelings about Star Saber. On its own its brilliant and yet when I put it with the rest of my MPs it looks out of place. Its much bigger (aside from MP1 and Magnus) and at the same time it is far less detailed (aside maybe Rodimus) than any other MP.
Its the first MP that doesnt have a highly detailed toy influence to offset the simplicity of the animation influence which maybe explains it.
Stood next to the original, its the original that looks like the more premium product despite being also looking like the dumpy little brother. Weird.

Rodimus is as detailed as it needs to be!
Aside from that I kinda agree.

Yeah, I see what you're saying with regards to the detail, but... given how clean it is, and that it's an 80s-style space-age jet, it does kind of work. Possibly less so in photos, but looking at him across the room right now, standing there in his huge-ass magnificence, the white, plainer areas do offest the more detailed parts of Saber and the combined mode helmet. He's a definite presence.

So then... Four months on. Those who bought, is he worth the investment? Lay it on the line. I've just started watching Victory in earnest and I'm already getting urges.

Aye, it's definitely worth it. Although I need to spend more time with him - I've been buying way too many toys recently. Luckily, this thread has reminded me!

Oh if I had the spare pennies I would acquire one as a 'well done' after the year of hell. Perhaps next year if they are still about.

My canopy experience has soured me to it. It's a fine toy, just not rocking my boat like I hoped it would.

So then... Four months on. Those who bought, is he worth the investment? Lay it on the line. I've just started watching Victory in earnest and I'm already getting urges. I stand by by earlier comments*, its awesome it just somehow doesnt look like the other masterpiece toys. It's like... it's like having a Zebra in a field of Horses. It's more or less the same, size, shape, it does pretty much the same thing as the Horses and probably gets on with them just fine. But its a bloody Zebra and theres no mistaking it for a horse. *except when I wrote that I though the mp had less detailing than the original which is what I meant when I described the original as looking more like a premium product. Since then I have been comparing original and MP and MP actually does have all the detailing from the original, though sometimes moved around or slightly modified, plus a bit of extra, but because its so cartoon accurate it still looks like theres less going on than on the original. Its just odd.

Having seen one in the plastic, I have to say I was quite impressed with it. I didn't really find it was lacking in detail myself - aesthetically I felt that the fairly "clean" approach worked for something which is much more in the "Super Robot" style, like a lot of the Brave stuff. If it had been done with the dial turned more towards the middle like MP-03 it would have looked a little odd. (Actually, thinking about it there is something in my brain that kind of feels like Star Saber belongs in something like Zeta Gundam. Probably the big blocks of primary colours.).
The only thing that did disappoint me slightly was his inability to hold his sword properly in combined mode... (unlike frying pans or baseball bats swords are designed to work either with sharp side toward enemy, or stabby end pointed forwards. Flat side applied to enemy is deeply inefficient, even if you are the greatest swordsman in the galaxy). I am sure I will have more detailed thoughts later in the month, seeing as I can't open mine for a couple of weeks still.

I'm happy to hear he doesn't fit in with MPs. I have only 2; G2 Sideswipe and Prowl. G2 Sideswipe fits well with generations voyagers, Prowl less so (but CW Prowl will be along soon).
Star Saber will be the unique supreme commander of all Transformers in my collection.
Happy to have him!

Although the box has sat in the wardrobe in my spare room since earlier this year, as he has now been "officially received" as Birthday gift I am now the proud owner of a Masterpiece Star Saber! (Thanks go to those folk who bought him for me - you know you are).
He is still in the box at the moment - I've been savouring looking at him over my breakfast (between Act 1 and Act 2 of Macross Ep 8 "Longest Birthday"). He will be released from his cardboard prison shortly.
