Mrs M will get you a sticker. The full prizes are ridiculously popular down here. She runs the SRC down here and normally orders in for expected numbers back in January with the supplier. Last year they had to order in extras at the last minute and also raid the scant left overs from previous years.

Kids love stickers. Even in the upper primary age. It's weird. Clearly badges is where it's at. The local lib came to our school to pitch this scheme, so I shall be following it up in September.

It only runs over the summmer... but runs every year. Libraries are generally very amenable to visits from classes though throughout the year and will often do intro to the library sessions if asked. Just ask ahead. And suitably far ahead. Don't upset Mrs M!

I have an action to do this in the autumn. I'm on a reading push throughout the school in the autumn, and it being our own library in school is a little lacking due to lack of funds, I'm on a mission to get all our pupils to the library.

This is a good mission. Proceed!
I think as I was taken regularly to the library from a young age (it was free after all!) I am very used to the idea of them. Mrs M informs me however that they are alien to a very large chunk of the population, many of whom don't seem to realise they can even take books out from them for free, let alone all the other things they have to offer.

I was too. My Dad used to take me to the big library in Portsmouth every fortnight to change books and have a bag of cheese and onion Golden Wonder in the cafe there. I need to get over to the library in question during the summer and scope out the options. Having been at this school for a year now I've got to know the kids and I'm shocked by their reading ability. As English lead I need to act!

A mix of book shops and libraries was perfectly normal for me growing up. Most of my peers had no interest in either.

As long as I can remember a weekly visit to the library has been a ritual of my life. Our village didn't have a bookshop for a lot of my early childhood, so it was our primary source of books.
But it is fair to say that I was atypical of my generation - I was surprised to find when I went up to Primary and Secondary school that books and reading was something that many of my peers disliked and felt that school forced them to do. for me it was something that I pretty much couldn't _not_ do. (Which reminds me - need to drop into the Central Library here tomorrow when I am down in town, see what I can turn up for my "To-read" pile).

I did my bit and took out and read 6 library books today as per the challenge. No novels or modern comic collections as I have a pile to work through at home so I selected a Tintin, 4 volumes of Asterix and Star Trek: The Visual Dictionary. I look forward to my stickers!!!

Concerned about evil curses, how many do you think there are? None, libraries don't do curses. They exist to give people access to good things, not to keep people from getting things. Unless you have removed something from it previously and not returned it. Then we might be tempted to... Karl
