This week's episode Spoiler JAMIE, LEARN TO SCOUT. OH MY GOD. A HORDE OF THOUSANDS OF SCREAMING HORSEMEN SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SNEAK UP ON YOU! In his defense They were nearly back at Kingslanding in what should be the safest part of the Seven Kingdoms for them.
I really want to see a functional timeline for this season, one that accounts for the travel time that is no longer being shown. An awful lot seems to have happened in the two weeks the banker has been staying with Cersei.

Enjoying this series a lot so far but oh man it's so so fanficcy, we're clearly beyond the books! And a lot of characters fast-travelling, whereas in the past it would take an entire season to cross the country!

I have to admit im confused as to why they have opted for such a rushed final two seasons. They clearly are rushing aound. If two full length seasons would be to expensive, why not opt for 3 short ones?

I am absolutely loving it. It's the best TV experience I've had for years.

My only very slight annoyance is that this is the first time we've been completely ahead of the books and I would like to enjoy wondering whats going to happen, but I'm barely having time to wonder before its done and gone.
For this reason I seem to be the only person who is enoying the Winterfell scenes.

I really enjoyed it, some epic storytelling and a great build towards season 8, shame the rumours say it wont be until late 2018/early 2019.
Theres an astonishing video on youtube released by HBO showing how they made the previous episode, is a fantastic watch!

Happy to see my faith Stark ladies was justified.
Good as it was, Twin Peaks latest episode sort of stole its thunder for me.
Still it was good of England to have a special holiday just so people could stay up late/get up early to watch the finale.

Having a rewatch before the last season.
Bloody hell season 1 is a tough rewatch knowing how badly wrong everything will go over the next decade and seeing how many times it could have been avoided.

I expected them to drag out a few of the reveals for a bit longer but was pleasantly surprised to see them out of the way so quickly.
I still think Tyrion ends up on the iron throne - a reluctant king.

Well he'll have to have something to do, ZING It's nice that they are starting to do something with all the characters who have been awkwardly hanging about for the last 2-3 seasons

S8E2 - Daenarearararys and Jon scene... {Spoiler}Her reaction to the revelation that Jon Snow was her nephew wasn't "Crap - I love you in a naughty way, that's a bit dodgy" it was "Crap - I have no rightful claim to the Iron Throne now, this is a bit annoying and scuppers my delusions of grandeur that I have been fostering for many a year".

Oh yes, I don't think she was best pleased at all. She'd be a dreadful and quite tyrannical queen if she gets the throne. Not that she'll get it. I do think we might see Tyrion as a reluctant king at the end, simply by the fact he is the last one surviving.

Episode 3 Spoiler I kinda feel bad for GOTs right now. Any other week this year and thats the best thing ever. But 44 hours after seeing Endgame I'm almost feeling underwhelmed by that.
I know its an unfair comparison as this isnt the last episode, but it is ending the Night King story. Actually not that unfair, quite similar stakes, both started within a year or so of each other and amazingly the MCU runtime is probably only 10-20 hours less than GOT.
Even without the comparison it really did seem like they were reluctant to kill any of the A team. I mean they wiped out the B team, but I didn't expect Jorah and Theon would be the biggests casualties.
The Night King was a let down (especially if compared to Thanos). Yes he can raise the dead and doesn't give a damn about fire (is he a Targareon? that was a theory right?)
But it seems like anyone with those powers could have done at least as well as him.
It was beautifully shot though. And the ending caught me by surpise, even though it was pretty much what I was expecting prior to the episode.

I get that they wanted to do a 'oh the battle is at night with no visibility' thing but oh man I have absolutely zero clue what happened

SpoilerI get that they wanted to do a 'oh the battle is at night with no visibility' thing but oh man I have absolutely zero clue what happened Spoiler Yeah it was pretty hard to make sense of, but done during the day the vfx wouldnt have held up as well and probably wouldnt have been affordable.
And I did like the horror element it introduced.

Not a great advert for NowTV as my efforts to watch last night were hampered by poor quality picture (overly compressed video artefacts are not conducive to action scenes) and Sky Broadband drop out mid way through. Switched to my phone as a WiFi hotspot to finish watching the rest. That said... {Spoiler}I feel like we needed at least one more battle against the army of the dead prior to this - and we have never really seen much of what the Ice King's generals do other than sit on horses and look menacing.
I was thinking about some crazy curve balls they could have thrown regarding offing key cast members. After so many arcs were closed in the previous episode... Heck, would have been great to see Daenerys killed, she's served her purpose now - Brought enough of a skilled army to the North to help prevent the White Walker invasion. But alas, not to be. The fan outrage would have been worth it.
I also thought early on - hey wouldn't Sansa be an interesting choice for final person to sit on the Iron Throne? Now we have something weird going on between her and Tyrion.
And now we have Arya and Gendry as potential King+Queen. Heck, Gendry is the rightful heir of the Boratheon line, if Bastards can be heirs?
So on to the who was safe/ready to go and why-
We knew Jaime and Tyrion were safe because Bron has a contract on them both (and I think one of them has to be the one to take out Cersei - my guess is Jaime).
Brienne could have gone - surprised she survived. There could have been a touching moment where her and Jaime lock eyes knowingly and Tormund looks on lustfully.
The Hound probably needs to face off against Zombie-Mountain.
Theon had run his course and left his Sister in the Iron Islands.
Ser Jorah deserved a good death and was ready to go - he'd prepared himself for death when he had greyscale so anything he was doing now was just a bonus.
Would have been good to see Sean Bean's decapitated head come back to life in the crypt (I assume Ned Stark was buried there after his King's Landing execution? I can't remember the start of Season 2!)
But now with no Dothraki or Unsullied army, there's not much of a fight that can be taken to King's Landing. Interesting times for the next few episodes.
I'd also be interested in what Cersei's maester Qyburn is going to do with respect to the White Walkers. He seemed to take a keen interest in the one taken to the Dragon Pit. Potential for end of season plot twist - cut to Cersei's body in his lab, the eyes open blue.

(Well he is, sort of, but mentioned as an ancient legend about a commander of the Night's Watch who went rogue rather than an evil Darth Maul bloke)

HMM I liked that it was more about politics and actual characters and the idea that we might have a final face-off where the sides aren't just 'all the good guys' and 'comically evil villain' but good guys vs good guys. BUT Uuuuuugh COME ON SHOW. Once more Euron's magic boat army just appears and wrecks stuff, this time with magic boat and dragon destroying arrows that have pin-point accuracy. I mean in the books at least Euron actually has magic powers. Hated that they killed the dragon like that. I really really hate animals getting hurt even if they aren't real. And in such a bullsh*t way too Why didn't Cersei just murder everyone at the end, given they were standing with a small force in front of all her archers and giant magical ballistas. That's exactly the sort of thing she'd do!
