Was at HMV at opening, didn't manage to get a copy of the Doctor Who LP. Getting really fed up of all the super limited edition rubbish.

I was fortunate but only by chance as 3 outdoor events I had planned to pop in on were rained off so a change of plans meant I was near an HMV as I went to an indoor event instead. I like these BF records as fun physical collectables in the download age but I couldn't give a toss whether they are short limited editions or not. That they are number 'x of y' is zero of the appeal for me. I'd rather they had a decent print run so folk who want them can get them (or order online to make it a level playing field for customers with physical disabilities who maybe can't get to a shop). Very short print runs that vanish in a day encourage scalping and piss off existing customers. For an example of this google 'Playmates 1701 edition Star Trek figures' for how not to do it!

As an aside, BF did not exactly cover themselves with glory with some very dodgy PR as they live streamed on FB their marketing guy going to an HMV to look for the record while lots of angry customers pointed out they couldn't get the damn thing they wanted to buy as there are only 750 of them nationwide! I saw that and my mind staggered. What were they thinking??? It came across as very obnoxious.

I actually tweeted to him half an hour before he got there that I was there at opening and they ran out of their tiny stock before I could get one!!

Matt: I now see on the interwebs that FOPP got the record in too if you have one to check. Exactly the same just with a different sticker.

FOPP is a small chain that almost went under a few years ago and HMV bought them. It hadn't occurred to me to check in there! www.fopp.com/Since they were bought they have completely lost their identity and what made them special and have become a clone store of HMV with a different logo. -Ralph

I like the revelation that the limited edition run of 3000 is now 1500 because they don't want to press the other half of the discs.
I hope the recent warehouse sales and news about fewer CD pressings are just good business sense and not the sign of a company on shakey ground financially.

I don't think they are in any danger.
I just think it is sound business sense. Inventory liquidation is a common thing in publishing, as there reaches a point where the cost of storing the product outweighs any money you would recoup from what sales you would get, so better to get rid of it, free up space and make some money back.
Aside from the odd speciality item here and there, Big Finish are probably the only company that I have bought cd's from in a long time.

I mean, it was always going to be a tough sell with no big name hooks and the really odd choice of adapting episodes

Yep. I am a big Prisoner fan and held off for a sale as I was put off by it being advertised confusingly as adaptations but 'not a remake'. When I heard it I thought it was really good but it's not essential as most of it was already done on the telly. Couple that with the cd release of volume 1 being very expensive and The Prisoner not really well known for anyone under 30 and I can see why sales have perhaps struggled and calling it a day at volume 3 is sensible.

Uncle Terrance's Star Quest book has arrived from the BF sale. This is a steal at £2! The cover price is £15!
Am I allowed to read it before the next Class book?

Are those books covered by a very specific license? Seems an odd choice otherwise

Are those books covered by a very specific license? Seems an odd choice otherwise The German publisher Cross Cut puts out translations of Simon & Shuster's Star Trek novels. In 2016 they got a licence to put out an original novel trilogy for the 50th Anniversary. S&S passed on English language translations and so Titan picked them up instead. These audiobooks are readings of those Titan translations. Some of the S&S Trek books are available as audiobooks though only in German. Makes sense as Germany is the biggest market for Trek outside the US. -Ralph

S1 of Sarah Jane Smith: awful beyond words. Avoid. S2: all the pish is disposed of within the first five minutes before evolving into a very enjoyable serial! As there was no S3 (I presume because the character was then getting her own TV show) this means that was probably meant to be a cliffhanger becomes a typically British grim and dark ending. It works for the character though and is quite affecting.
In other news, I am taking the bullet for the time and am reading the Mervyn Stone books. Who shall I True Friend them to after I am done?

Recent podcasts and Vortex freebie mags confirm that The Omega Factor, Counter Measures and Survivors have been discontinued due to low sales (other than the already in production s8 for the latter). Dark Shadows renewed until 2021, which surprises year on year by still being a thing!
