I was meaning to ask that, have IDW ever officially refereed to the comic as G1? I really didn't pay it a whole lot of attention when it launched.

I don't think so. But it is clearly G1 in that everyone looks like their G1 designs and acts like their G1 characters and are all G1. It's not G2 or Beast Wars or Armada or Prime, it is G1, as much a facet of G1 as Sunbow or Marvel or Dreamwave or Blackthorne 3d.
I think what was mentioned before about say, BW characters turning up in Animated being fine and non-controversial. Animated was clearly its own continuity with its own designs and characters. .
I don't mean this as some sort of value judgement or anything, just the observation that the IDW ongoing is a G1 ongoing. I wasn't aware this was ever in dispute.

Maybe it was g1 or we thought it was but perhaps that was fandom's mistake. Maybe we need a new name. How about gwhizz? :-)

As Transformers is now a multiverse, clearly it must adhere to string-theory.
G-String.

How about Lockdown? Nobody's in the least bit bothered about his IDW appearances.

I was!
But then again, Lockdown made it into the movie line pretty quickly, didn't he?

I have no problem with this as long as good, entertaining stories result. Dark Cybertron was not all that great (it had its moments) but I don't lay that entirely at it being marketing-driven.

How about Lockdown? Nobody's in the least bit bothered about his IDW appearances. I did say I don't have an issue with that. Putting a version of Lockdown into G1 is the same as putting a version of Wheeljack into Prime. The difference for BW has been made clear.

I've voted Sausages because I'd prefer RID and MTMTE if they didn't have any recognisable "G1" characters in them at all, as I don't like reimaginings/reboots, so it makes no difference to me whether they include "post-G1" as well. All the original thought in the new comics is great, I just wish they weren't using the likenesses of characters who already have established fictional biographies in comics and don't need new ones.
New biography = new character. Give them a new name and new look while you're at it.
(I know, I know, brand recognition / franchising = sales...)

I'm sure this has been said before but I really HATE what they've done with Rattraps character! On the other hand it doesn't really matter. I mean yeah it's annoying to see a character you like being used "badly" by a writer but the way I see it is "different verse, different rules". BW Rattrap is and always will be BW Rattrap and the best Rattrap, but having a Rattrap in a different universe doesn't cancel out BW Rattrap. Back to my original pompous point before my pompous Rattrap rant, any character can appear anywhere the writers or company guys want them to "so long as it sells toy".

I dunno. Fan-ficcy? I mean yeah, it is all about Hasbro wanting existing toys in the comics, which I understand, but still...

It's not so much that he's in it (yeah him being a rat doesn't make sense but then half of everything in Transformers doesn't make sense) it's more that he's a scheming, conniving goon who will GLADLY TORTURE PEOPLE FOR STARSCREAM !!!
