Well... shit. That's brilliant. Unfortunately this year I have no-one in the US who's in a position to be able to buy it for me. Ah well - it's probably just as well.
My only criticism at this point would be that yes, it's a very nice looking set, but this is now the second multi-figure, expensive box-set that Hasbro's releasing at SDCC this year. It'd be nice if they had an affordable, single-figure exclusive. Like, for example, the First Edition deluxe Prime Prime that came in a Matrix-shaped box a few years back. That was an interesting figure, and not particularly expensive, either. Much as I love the two box sets this year (and I do) I can't help but feel that Hasbro's main aim is to hit the wallets of completist collectors for as much as they can...
(Yes, it's a moan. But at least it's not the obvious one about Sludge being missing. ;-) )

I like the look of Snarl there, but the others I could leave.
For me too the Ark interior is that of the early UK comics, though in my mind's eye it is quite green!

I'd buy that at retail.
No way am I paying con exclusive prices for it!

Apparently $60, 30 Kreons, thats US retail right there.
Sadly it will probably be a blood bath on HTS when they go up and the ebay prices will be stupid.

I'm not looking at HTS as a viable way to get the ark set because I'd assume it an instant sell out, but do they ship internationally? I really do want one but don't know how to secure one without resorting to eBay.

Okay, so BBTS were asking $300 for the Dinobots but it sold out instantly. That is actually more than eBay. Looking at that it seems you could get a set shipped and tax paid for around £180.
Despite the fact that amount could pay for three good third party needs I'm dangerously tempted to go for it. Trying to find reasons not to. I need someone to throw a bucket of water at me to snap me out of this.

I wasn't in the least bit interested in the Dinos until I saw that card set. Now all I can think of is the photos I can take with it. It's making me reconsider the whole AoE range... not just the G1-coloured Dinobots.
But that rock band is mine. I'll go to town making a stage for those guys.

All you need to put you off anything other than Dinobots from the AoE line is a quick trip to TRU. I came out of the film really like Crosshairs, particularly the coat, and had all these visions about how it could be done as a toy. Then I saw the toy. Ugh.
Just go and look at them, the AoE toys are all bobbins bar the Dinos. The only other one I'm intending to buy is the Prime two pack, and that's 90% for the Classics Prime.
Legios' hosing is holding my finger off the fire button. So far. Just about.

Agreed. While the deluxe and voyager dinobots are great (leader grimlock is god awful though), evasion mode prime is the only other generations worth anything. The non generations aoe are even worse.

I think it's just a classic case of me desperately wanting to like new Transformers toys. I'll always try to see the silver lining. I miss the days of the ROTF line where I could stroll into Tesco and look forward to walking down the toy isle. I'm always so depressed when I make that walk now. So many of the toys are bad, it's hard to see any silver lining at all. Case in point: When I first saw the Hound toy, I genuinely expected to see him with 'tentacled' arms when I saw the movie!
But that rock band is mine...

I eventually got excited by the Beast Hunters line after I'd had a fiddle with some, it was fun trying to build that collection up on the cheap. We're denied here because we don't get the Generations toys. That would give you some fun in the toy aisle. Imagine next year being able to walk into a supermarket to see which combiner limbs are on the pegs... how awesome would that be. 1986 all over again. Just not going to happen here.
How are you intending to procure the Rock Band? ebay?

How are you intending to procure the Rock Band? ebay? Yeah. everything's cheaper than the retailers right now as there's competition. I've found a seller who could do me both the band and the Dinos which would save me some postage... but I'm still not sure I can splash that much cash 'in a oner'.

Takara have just released their deluxe Crosshairs and it doesn't look too bad at all IMHO. Why is it that I've only ever seen the one step changers, 'riders' and big 'orrible Prime and Grimlock? I've literally never seen an AoE Deluxe.

Because over here you can only get them in TRU. They're an exclusive here. That does look better, but even an improved finish can't stop that super coat from the film looking like his pants have fallen down on the figure.
And the other thing to remember with all these figures is that there is very little differentiation in the packaging to tell you you're looking at a Generations toy. It takes some getting used to. Basically, anything in a supermarket is bobbins.

I thought that might have been the case but I was in TRU Lincoln a few weeks back and didn't see any new (i.e. not seen previously) figures at all. I guess I just timed it wrong. It'll be nice to live near a TRU again...

TORMENTOR! I had this dream that this year the perceived popularity of these sets would mean that a lot more would be made and they'd stay in stock on Hasbro toyshop for a week.
Yep, like that was going to happen.

$300? I think someone had them about that price at AA. Considering the cost of importing them, that's quite a markup from BBTS.
