Yeah. Now that I've reasserted my tenuous grasp on reality, and am certain that this is actually A Thing, I think I'm going to have to say that I love it. It's bonkers, and unexpected. It's great. The only thing not to love is the price. But then I'm not going to SDCC either, so you know...

Whats amazing about that set is that the most amazing thing about it is the price. I mean they have rock hair and tassels and it's still the price that left me speechless. I want them all, but that price is cuckoo.

Well I do want those WFC figures but for $185 I could just about buy the originals and that would mean they wouldn't be covered in hair.

Yes but they also wouldn't have tassels. Tassels.

$185 is actually a hell of a price. Four heavily painted figures, two accessory characters, a bunch of brand new accessories (mikes) tassels, hair, clothing Insanely detailed packaging and extras... Specially commissioned tour posters, stickers, a concert ticket, an "album" (this I do not understand), a booklet that details this band's history... There is a hell of a lot of love, thought, and hard work gone into this, with most people not understanding the joke. All of this for less than $50 a figure. Considerably more for a hell of a lot less than funpub club figure.
I think it's a hell of a deal. But it's just sooo much in one bite, though.

Looking at the overall package ie the packaging itself and the themed stuff included as well as the toys I think the price (while high) is pretty reasonable for what is there as a whole. Certainly looks better value then the Botcon set. It certainly shows more imagination and flair than most Botcon sets. I like how it's been considered as a full themed set of stuff (toys, assorted gubbins and a box that is instrinsic to the theme) rather than just a few random toys chucked in box. It also has a sense of humour to it.
And it looks very cheap compared to third party stuff.
Bravo.

I love that this exists. The whole idea is brilliantly off the wall, they've done a fantastic job of making it into an actual package which all fits together and it is very memorable. It is certainly more distinctive than last years offering, and shows far more imagination than Fun Pubs "Random Autobots versus Decepticons" theme for their next boxed set. If you are going to do a convention exclusive in this day and age you may as well go all out crazy, it is the best way to stand out from the crowd.

From what little I have seen on the interwebs the reaction appears to split between "That is awesome, and hilarious I must have it" and "Zomg, Hazblow have gone crazy. Noones would buy this crap. This suckzors." It appears to be somewhat "marmite", without much middle ground.

It's insane.
I love it.
I'm particularly impressed by the box and all the pack-in ephemera. The whole package certainly kicks the Knights Vs Pirates theme up the butt, though I'm a little concerned as to what it might prompt FP to do in response in the future. But where the smeg did this come from, Hasbro???
Where did the $185 price tag come from? I can't find that in the links.

Very interesting SDCC exclusive. Certainly off the wall, but makes the 30th anniversary stand out, so thats good, needed to be different. Never going to appeal to everyone, but that surely is the point of these niche exclusives. Brave concept and definitely not the sort of thing that looks like a misplaced mass market figure, so think its a good job.

As a point of comparison what is the price of the 2014 Botcon box set?

As a point of comparison what is the price of the 2014 Botcon box set? -Ralph $402 all in. But if comparing it should be remembered that a chunk of that is to cover the cost of the convention itself (and the attendee figure) and for US non attendees it covers shipping costs too (I think). FP also have licensing costs and the various costs of getting Hasbros approval and production done. I imagine theres a lot less hassle and it's much cheaper for Hasbro to produce their own exclusives. A more straightforward comparison is the at show exclusives, the two packs of deluxes usually sell for around $90 plus tax so two of those packs would be $180, thats going to include one or two new heads from FP verus the $185 SDCC set having two animated toys, packaging and accessories. I'm also curious about how much profit Hasbro makes on their SDCC exclusives. For FP the toys are their main income as I understand it so they would need a decent profit, but for a company the size of Hasbro surely its got to be more about promotion isn't it?

I look at these in comparison to the general cost of takara import deluxe figures. Usually those run between $20-40.

It's a shame about the orange on Soundwave, otherwise he could pass for Marvel comics Soundwave

Does nothing for me, I'm afraid. Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of heavy metal.
I certainly don't bare the set any ill-will. It's certainly nothing that's been done before. Good on them for coming up with it!

Oh! Oh this is awesome!
Right, I haven't done this before with Transformers; Forbidden Planet always have the Doctor Who exclusives but not TFs. I NEED this, how do we get it here?
It's got a cardboard Ark playset! squeeee!

The cardboard playset is very nice indeed. Although my brain doesn't really classify it as The Ark - all the orange makes me think of the good ship "Autobot Headquarters" from the Sunbow show. When I think of the Ark I think of the early UK comic and tend to think of it as being steel-grey. Yes, I'm nit-picking - but it is just the way my brain malfunctions. It is a really good playset though - multiple levels and everything. Sadly far beyond my budget this year, typical isn't it. The first year I see a San Diego exclusive I really like the look of is the year I am in no position to buy it. Comedy timing that.
