Well I suppose it means hes not going near the main title.
Minis are easier to ignore.

This is all very confusing. I thought McCarthy admitted to hating writing TFs after AHM wrapped up??

Well my first reaction to that was one of... well, utter terror. Because much as McCarthy hated writing AHM, I hated reading it. The only good thing to come from that terrible, fan-wanky mess, is the all of the brilliant work that Roberts and Barber have been doing tidying up the colossal mess that McCarthy made of everything. The only hope I have for this new series is that Barber seems to be doing a much better job than the editorial team that previously oversaw Transformers and who, as far as I can tell from the evidence, did nothing.
The only reason for this mini-series existing, as far as I can figure out, is because Drift is (presumably - I've not seen it yet) a prominent new character in the Transformers movie franchies. And the comics need to cash in on some of that. (Which may also explain the return to Earth in RiD.) Just as long as it's not quite as much of a mess as Dark Cybertron, I'll be happy...

McCarthy was the one who was Drift's creator?

McCarthy created Drift, yes. He likes doing Transformers.
The writer who spoke of not really 'getting' Transformers, etc is Costa.
McCarthy wrote AHM. Costa wrote the ongoing series that went down like a lead balloon.

I've read a review & says story is awful with missing lots of interesting plot points that would make a great series on its own. I'll get it in 50p bins with stinkblade

Issue 2 reads like the middle episodes of Doctor Who - the main characters run around a bit, get captured, escape, and find the next plot point on the final page. It's entertaining and the art is excellent (worth the price in itself), but the story could have been told in half the page count.

Hmm buying it might encourage IDW, but paying only 69p so quickly could be seen as a bit of a slap in the face, showing them what I think a McCarthy story is worth. But is it worth even 69p?
hmmm..
