I'm very taken with Whirl - surprisingly and satisfyingly close to the original design but with modern aarticulation. So many modern interpretations are far removed from the original designs, it's refreshing to see something so close. Tailgate - how very IDW! I approve. Scoop and Armada Starscream also stand out. Hasbro are certainly putting in a good show with Generations at the moment.

Anyone seen the list of the first 10 of the 30 different Transformers. You've got 1-4 then 5 is 1 Metroplex again & 6 is 2 Shockwave.
So Metroplex is number 1,5 so far is he going to be used any more in the 30 list?

I am thrilled about Scoop. He was one of the few Autobots left in my eclectic collection back in 1989, and as such has always had a special place in my boyhood heart. Will definetly get him.

I too had Scoop as a child. Loved the toy and love the character. I do find that Cybertron Landmine makes an excellent Scoop, so much so that he has completely 'become' Scoop in my mind's eye. I think the mold makes batter, more modern, use of Scoop's shovel. Still, hard to resist a Scoop figure, and indeed this figure looks very nice!

I guess that rather than celebrating 30 years of TFs, they are celebrating the 30th year of them instead. ! Alas, no for the logo also clearly states 2014 in bold! I have now had a shot of Springer. It's quite nice. I'll get one next year. In 2014! -Ralph

Not sure if this is just mine, but where these are mostly panel formers, the rear right hand side of BB doesnt align properly.

Oh he can bugger off. He draws pictures for the licence holder and they own them. End of story.
In other news, have had a shot of some Generations toys in recent weeks. Trailbreaker has a great head sculpt and a solid limited colour palette but otherwise feels cheap and nasty and doesn't seem Trailbreakerish for reasons I can't pin down. Springer I wasn't sure about but really grew on me on second fiddle. Blitzwing looks nice but is rubbish and Sandstorm is a winner. I can see myself picking up the latter if it turns up at UK retail. Possibly Springer if it's in a sale.
And Metroplex is amazing and a must-own!

Oh he can bugger off. He draws pictures for the licence holder and they own them. End of story. That's true, but it would have been polite to let him know / send him one, maybe. After all, people are not robots. I can imagine it would be really weird to see that something you drew for a comic suddenly turns up on the shelf and you didn't know anything about it. A little bit of courtesy goes a long way. (Hasbro never sent me a free Universe Hot Shot after nicking all that stuff for the deco/bio, and that wasn't work for hire! ;__; )

I recall Shane McCarthy commenting that he was not sent a Drift toy. It's the corporate way.

I recall Shane McCarthy commenting that he was not sent a Drift toy. It's the corporate way. -Ralph What? That's crazy. For the sake of keeping your creative teams happy, $10 is a bargain. Companies spend far far more on far less!

Well they had no reason to. Hasbro owns characters and designs created by IDW as part of their TF licence. McCarthy was paid for his work by IDW not Hasbro. He did not do the work for Hasbro so they have no need to send him anything, ie in the same way that Budiansky had no rights over the Straxus toy or Furman with regards to the Impactor toy.
Should comic creators be sent a copy of a toy if it is based on something they created in a comic? I agree that would be a nice gesture, but for the vast corporate empire of Hasbro I doubt it's on their radar at all. And someone like Don should know better, having worked on licensed TF comics over a long period and also having done design work for Hasbro. Hence why he should keep his moans to himself.

Yes, but balancing the cost of posting a small plastic toy against pissing off your creative people and making them not want to work for you anymore, and the bad publicity generated, it seems really a no-brainer to me. I mean, how much does a deluxe cost Hasbro? A few dollars max. Is saving a few dollars really worth all that professional and public aggravation?

I doubt that even enters into the equation. They license out their IP to IDW and own the designs/characters created by them which are fed into the great maw of the toy company. That's it. Professionals with experience working in these areas know the score. I doubt one dude moaning on message board even registers to the toy company.
On a tangent, if a third party company makes a toy based off an IDW design, have the comic artists been sent a toy? I honestly don't know.

HASBRO: Redo Sideswipe & Red Alert with legs like this. Springer I wasn't sure about but really grew on me on second fiddle. Springer's not rocking my world. Needs to be shorter and wider

I thought that initially with Springer but the more I fiddled with one the more I like it. The other modes do nowt for me but the robot mode is 'super possible'! As the kids say.

I am very confused about Figeuroa's attitude on this. He was on a contract that specified that anything he designed for IDW's Transformers comics became the property of Hasbro and that they had the right to use it as they saw fit thereafter, they used it is they saw fit and now he is annoyed that they are exercising their rights under their contractural agreement... The unprofessionalism is not on Hasbro's side here, it is on the side of the artist who feels a sense of entitlement to get something for work he has already been duly paid for.
Blitzwing is a bit rubbish now I have had a chance to play about with him a bit. The fighter mode is ok-ish, holds together reasonaby well whilst looking a bit like a cross between a Legioss and one of the Armada jets. The tank mode however was distinctly underwhelming - it felt very much like an assortment of parts just about sticking together in a generic tank shape.
Not had a chance to open my Springer and Sandstorm yet, but I am looking forward to it - especially the Sandstorm, which looks like it is very much the winner of the bunch. I shall be opening AHMegatron in the next few minutes I think.
