What would people's ideal Avengers teams be?

That's a tough one.
I shall have to think as my team could end up into double figures easily!

My favourite pages from any Avengers comic I've read are the bit from The Korvac Saga where because they've had their official flight privileges revoked, the Avengers assemble at a bus stop and commandeer a bus to take them to the address where their enemy is hiding out. My mind is blown by the image of Iron Man, Thor, Hercules, Captain America and at least half a dozen others driving down the road in a bus.
Having said that, my ideal line-up would probably not involve any extra-terrestrial gods. I'd prefer to limit "Earth's mightiest heroes" to characters with human origins. Asgardians and Olympians are cheating.
Perhaps something like Captain America, Iron Man, the Wasp, Captain Marvel (circa 1985), the Vision, the Scarlet Witch and the Beast.
I like Captain Marvel 'cos I'm tickled by the concept of having someone who's stupidly powerful just by chance without being a natural leader or hero or super-genius. I love the idea of the Molecule Man being the most powerful being in existence but living his life as a couch potato as he has no wish to be a hero or a villain. (And he may be one of the wisest characters in the Marvel universe. Who else with such power would not set themselves up as a god-like power for good or evil?)

Right, I think my team would have to be:
Cap (as leader), Iron Man, Thunderstrike, Vision (white colour scheme), Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, Beast, Wonder Man and Sersi.

Sadly I don't even know who all of them are. Martin Thunderstrike was Eric Masterson and for a time he was Thor. Sersis is one of The Eternals (Jack Kirby 70's creation who was an Avenger in the late 80's and 90's). I assume those were the two you didn't know! Andy

Hmm. An ideal Avengers line-up. I've thought long and hard about this, and come to some conclusions.
There are certain characters I feel like simply have to be in the Avengers, just because:
Captain America, Iron Man, The Wasp & Beast are pretty much givens for me.
After that my brain starts to think in terms of the tag-line that the Avengers has "Earth's Mightiest Heroes", and I start to think in terms of finding a way for them to be more representative of the Earth as a whole... I would therefore be inclined to add the following characters to the team, possibly in rotating slots so that they were there for some story arcs and not for others:-
Black Panther, Captain Britain (Brian Braddock), either Doctor Strange or Doctor Voodoo, Crimson Dynamo (but probably with someone new in the suit), Sunfire,
But then, my Avengers would be very much a globe-trotting team - one day racing against time to save the Fantastic Four and defeat an evil plan of Doctor Doom, the next standing between Singapore and the devastating power of Doctor Demonicus' latest batch of terrifying Giant Monsters.

I also have been giving this some thought: There are certain characters I feel like simply have to be in the Avengers, just because: Captain America, Iron Man, The Wasp & Beast are pretty much givens for me. Three of those I agree on. Iron Man.... less sure. Iron Man was absent for large parts of the Stern run and he's also absent from my favourite issue, 188. Neither would I choose Thor. Another of the team from 188 I would include: Wonder Man. His appearances from 150-212 are fabulous. The rest of the 188 team is Falcon, Captain (Ms) Marvel, Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver. I'm fond of the first two but.... I think I'd probably go for another Captain Marvel though: Monica Rambeau. But I'd want Stern writing her. Vision probably. Hawkeye. I'm not sure I'd go for any Hank Pym iteration, but am tempted to include the Rita DeMara Yellowjacket as, like some of my X-Men choices, I thought she had mileage before her character got developed in a terminal way.

Reread Hickman's Avenger's while in hospital.
1) Read New Avengers 1-3 (or the first trade) first. A certain frame in Avengers 1 will make more sense.
2) Compare the opening pages of New Avengers 1 and Avengers 1.
3) Compare the closing pages of New Avengers 6 and Avengers 6.
4) Compare Manifold in Avengers with the one that briefly appears in New Avengers 1.
This is **** fine stuff.

Read up to Avengers 28 and New 12 I'm one TPB worth further ahead on Avengers, it runs (ran?) bi-weekly. Top stuff and the stories are starting to come together.
I'll grab the rest next week (Avengers 29-35, New 13-23) so I'm well prepared for the hospital trip next Weds

The "what would my favourite Avengers team be?" question came to me again tonight. I knew we'd done it before and dug the thread out.
Anyone know if there's a site that lists all the Avengers line ups on it?

Ahh. Gosh that'd be some list the way the line-up changes so often. One characters leaves, another joins. Not aware of an online resource with that info.

Martin: If you've not read the West Coast Avengers Visionquest trade, let me know so you can, and look away now.... Comic Book Legends Revealed #589: John Byrne originally intended to have the Vision return to being the original Human Torch. goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2016/08/19/comic-book-legends-revealed-589/2/I am in two minds about this story: I think the events depicted, at least in terms of the Vision being kidnapped and disassembled, were an obvious consequence of the Stern Avengers run and Absolute Vision in particular. I think it's a good story and I like the return of the original Human Torch. Against that however IT BROKE THE VISION & THE SCARLET WITCH SO BAD THEY'VE NEVER BEEN FIXED! Wanda's now unstable and nobody's been able to do a really good Vision story since, till the current Vision series which is great!

Also been indulging in some old Avengers. Digitally it's Masterworks 16-19, 151-202 but in terms of Paperback trades it's Epic 9 The Final Threat, Knights of Wundagore & Heart of Stone. One of my favourite periods. Masterwork 20 is due in the new year, up to 212, which will digitally link me with Trial of Yellowjacket and the Stern trades. Having finished those Avengers, and not wanting to onto the Stern till the digital Masterworks 20 arrives, I reread the first 24 West Coast Avengers, which are in the first two AWC Epics Good fun, and Lost in Space/Time is fab as ever. Into the back issue box today to read Avengers 203-211, the issues that link what the Masterworks have reprinted with the Stern Paperbacks, both of which I've got digitally. First time I've read a paper comic for a bit, was difficult to turn the pages underlying why most of my reading is digital now. They are not good issues. www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/comic.php?comicid=46326 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/comic.php?comicid=46327 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/comic.php?comicid=46328 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/comic.php?comicid=46329 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/comic.php?comicid=46330 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/comic.php?comicid=46331 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/comic.php?comicid=46332 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/comic.php?comicid=46333 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/comic.php?comicid=46334 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/comic.php?comicid=46335 Big mix of artists and writers, several of which read like being fill ins. The last issue 211 is the start of Shooter's second run with The Beast, Wonder Man, Jocasta, The Vision & Scarlett Witch all leaving and really feels like the end of an era. Unfortunately I know even rougher waters are ahead, I don't recall any of the 2teens being much good.
