Read the recent issue of FF Adventures. Yep, you really learn to appreciate Hickman more after the dreadful filler Annual story in which naff writing and art collide in an explosion of boringness. Looks like it's back to Hickman next issue though!

I'm not feeling I'm getting Hickman's FF. I love his Secret Warriors but his FF is leaving me cold.

The one issue of MWOM I read was good, but I only wanted it for Mighty Avengers and workeed out it's be cheaper to buy the trade. On a similar theme I see that Essential X-Men is reprinting Second Coming for the next 5 months. I make that £14.75. Well the trade ain't that much more so I may skip the next few months of EXM So no EXM for me this week. Astonishing Spider Man is proving a bit of a struggle at the moment as it's been spider fight, spider fight, spider fight and a bit neglecting the rest of the cast.

MWOM will be running Shadowlands and Chaos War in future issues, according to the letters page.
EXM #23 runs parts #1-3 of Second Coming.

*TWO* Alan Davis covers on my Panini Collectors editions today. They saw Andu coming.
Avengers Unconquered is finishing next issue becoming Avengers Assemble. Should have had that title all along.

Current issue has first 3 parts of Avengers: Prime for a third of what it cost to get the US issues and without the bimonthly schedule. Huzzah.
Perhaps going to a new #1 could have waited until May when the movie comes out but perhaps Panini thought the post-Siege era would make for a better jumping-on point.
I've dropped almost all print comics now ahead of switching to digital in the New Year. Only picking up Panini reprints in paper now as they are good value for money and it's still nice to get something off of newsstands.

I am thinking of expanding my purchases of Panini stuff - sure it means that I am getting stories way behind the US titles, but that just makes it like when I was a kid and I coped then, and the cost-to-value ratio is heavily in their favour.
If there is a suitable jumping on point to the Avengers title it might be a good time for me to give it a go. The Batman and Fantastic Four titles have been pretty good to me after all.

The X-Men should have a good jump on point shortly too when a major story finishes.

Picked up and dropped the X-Men one several times over the last couple of years - once because of the amount of Legacy it was printing and once because I had read Curse of the Mutants in trade and hadn't been impressed enough to want to actually own it.
Might be time to think about giving it another go soon though.

I generally jump on and off the x-book depending on the current story.
Current Avengers issue is printing Avengers Prime so is jump onable. Siege has finished. I presume the renumbered January issue will kick off with the post-Siege Avengers #1 etc. I am hoping they run Secret Avengers.

Yeah, possibly. Year at least.
Anyhow:
Avengers Unconquered 38 (Avengers Prime 1-3) I don't buy the whole Cap/Iron Man/Thor are at the centre of the Avengers thing (though I'd argue Cap is.....) so this buddy bonding story with them sent to some of the nine worlds isn't doing it for me. However that is by some distance the best Alan Davis art I've seen for a while, if not quite looking like it did in his New Mutants Annuals/Excalibur glory days.
Astonishing Spider-Man 51 (Amazing Spiderman 633 and (I think) 634 (There's a typo on the contents page) + American Son 3) This powered up "Spider villains that the Kraven's are responsible for" story feels like it's been going on forever (10+ issues) so when May finally turns up in this issue I'd forgotton she'd a)been possessed and b) who by (I think it involves Mister Negative). I'd never heard of the Kaine that shows up in the second part but when the word Clone came up my warning sensors went off. A bit too dark and violent throughout for my tastes with the Lizard having slain a child and the Kravens' sacrificing the current Spider-Girl (just don't ask) so this probably isn't selling the title to you. The first 40 issues of this title were fabulous but it's hit a trough I think. By contrast the American Son back up manages to salvage something from the train wreck that was the Sins Past storyline.
Fantastic Four Adventures 24 (Spider-Man/FF 2, FF 582, FF 75) I'm not a fan of crowbarring extra stories into existing continuity but SM/FF hasn't been too bad, and I'm finding it a better read than the main FF strip written by Hickman who I usually like. Perhaps a reread once 588 is reprinted may throw a different light on it. Lee/Kirby reprints are always good even though I've not really been reading them.

Astonishing Spiderman 52 today which wrapped up American Son and seems top be getting to the conclusion of this Gaunlet nonsense. I note Essential X-Men is out too.
