Perhaps a way to make their publications stand out more and to justify higher cover prices. Square bound looks and feels more like a book so perhaps appeals more to parents buying the comics for kids (and more casual adult readers). Once they start hitting £4+ (and without covermounts) they become a harder sell. The UK newsstand for comics has changed a lot recently as the market has been shifting to £10 100-200 page hardbacks. Panini may sensibly be looking at how they compete with that.
Whacking the price up again but changing the presentation may keep some readers who may have been on the fence.
There is also the competetion from the digital markets. Physical comics need to feel they are worth the money when some of the material is cheaper in the digital marketplace.
I would not be surprised if Titan go squarebound within a year with their newsstand titles too.
Idle speculation! Who knows!

I can't remember the issue number but back during the first run of the title we got that gloss paper that made the issue slim & I liked that paper. This was sometime between 1995-2007.

I have been collection the Panini CE line since day one back in 1995 some 1200 issues later I am still here but even though I still buy the issues I don't get around to reading them much with other things taking up time. I am not that fond of the new bound look and certainly not the €6.20 price point. I hate the constant re starting re numbering aswell but I gotten to expect it every year or so now. I would say Panini are trying to combat the change in the newsagent with the rise of graphic novel partwork, I think about 9 available at the moment. You have to wonder will they try to have their own graphic novel collection out after all Panini also have their own partwork coming soon Marvel Universe Figurine Collection marvel-figurines.panini.co.uk/.

I looked at a copy of Avengers #1 100 pages & #2 is 76 pages. So looks like the format is going Deadpool rather than the normal CE. So does this mean all CE are starting with a new #1 squarebound & the high price. Nothing on the Panini website after AU #16

Pete: letters page in Deadpool unleashed confirms that all new volumes of current CE's will be printed in the book form that Deadpool unleashed is We'd hoped they'd changed their mind but it seems not

The new CHAMPIONS is shit. Fuck all happens in the second issue. Lots of annoying 'teen-speak'. Waid is a great writer but not on teen books. His recent Avengers also suffered from 'everyone speaks like they are a 10th generation photocopy of a Joss Whedon character'.
By contrast, really enjoying his run (with Chris Samnee) on Black Widow.

A shame - Waid put in a decent shift on Impulse, and on Legion of Superheroes I thought. A shame that Champions isn't working out.
Didn't know he was on a Black Widow book though - I'm kind of tempted to give that a go.

If you liked the work he and Samnee did on Daredevil then you'll like their Black Widow.

I've read Avengers 1. It didn't thrill me it has to be said, given Avengers has become my favourite of the three Paninivision titles I read. The art was impressive, but not what I want to see in an Avengers title, and the story expands on one of the less interesting narratives of the recent titles.
The lack of direct continuity from CWII was really jarring.

I must make a note to look at picking up some of their Widow then. Won't be able to get it from the library sadly - the Northampton Library Service is, to be blunt about it, very bad at carrying trades. (Although the sheer volume of non-Marvel and DC-Stuff available digitally by App acts as some consolation for this). Might have a look on the 'ology and try an issue or two. Karl

Bit of a bad patch for MWOM currently. Both Champions and GOTG are weapons grade awful. Only Black Widow is holding my interest currently.

I read the GOTG mother entropy storyline and thought that was fun but rest was garbage in my eyees Mother Entropy was ok but the new GOTG series they are now running is just as garbage as the Bendis stuff. I now understand why folk have been saying Marvel is in the shitter as Paninivision catches up with the state of the current market. Too many of their books are now written as 'sassy characters constantly quip like Buffy-KO's and no sense of danger'. I can see myself culling MOWM until the line-up changes when Black Widow finishes. -Ralph

Let's try and decode those Secret Empire issue numbers into some dates and a timeframe. We know what the current issues are. We know when the Avengers issues are Secret Empire. We know when the Astonishing Spider-Man issues are Secret Empire. We know when the Marvel Legends issues are Secret Empire and with that we can work out when the volume changes. We have no idea when Wolverine or MWOM will change volume number, all their parts are in the next volume. Essential X-Men we can work out: Title | Issues | Remaining | I vs X | 6 | 4 | Uncanny | 19 | 3 | Extraordinary | 20 | 2 | All-New | 19 | 3 | US Issues Remaining | | 12 |
So 12 US issues = at least 3 more UK issues = last issue of this volume probably is 21. Secret Empire issues in bold | Avengers | Marvel Legends | X-Men | Mighty World Of Marvel | Wolverine & Deadpool | Astonishing Spider-Man | 28/12/2017 | 1 | | | | 19 | | 04/01/2018 | | 19 | | | | 37 | 11/01/2018 | | | 19 | 17 | | | 18/01/2018 | | | | | | 38 | 25/01/2018 | 2 | | | | 20 | | 01/02/2018 | | 20 | | | | 39 | 08/02/2018 | | | 20 | 18 | | | 15/02/2018 | | | | | | 40 | 22/02/2018 | 3 | | | | 21 | | 01/03/2018 | | 21 | | | | 41 | 08/03/2018 | | | 21 | 19 | | | 15/03/2018 | | | | | | 42 | 22/03/2018 | 4 SE | | | | 22 | | 29/03/2018 | | 22 | | | | 43 SE | 05/04/2018 | | | 1 | 20 | | | 12/04/2018 | | | | | | 44 SE | 19/04/2018 | 5 SE | | | | 23 | | 26/04/2018 | | 23 SE | | | | 45 SE | 03/05/2018 | | | 2 | 21 | | | 10/05/2018 | | | | | | 46 | 17/05/2018 | 6 SE | | | | 24 | | 24/05/2018 | | 24 SE | | | | 47 | 31/05/2018 | | | 3 | 22 | | | 07/06/2018 | | | | | | 48 | 14/06/2018 | 7 SE | | | | 25 | | 21/06/2018 | | 25 SE | | | | 49 | 28/06/2018 | | | 4 SE | 23 | | | 05/07/2018 | | | | | | 50 | 12/07/2018 | 8 SE | | | | 26 | | 19/07/2018 | | 1 SE | | | | 51 | 26/07/2018 | | | 5 SE | 24 | | | 02/08/2018 | | | | | | 52 | 09/08/2018 | 9 SE | | | | 27 | | 16/08/2018 | | 2 SE | | | | 53 | 23/08/2018 | | | 6 | 25 | | | 30/08/2018 | | | | | | 54 | 06/09/2018 | 10 SE | | | | 28 | | 13/09/2018 | | 3 SE | | | | 55 |

anyone wants MWOM issues 6-13, daredevil and hulk think they from 2005. bought a bulk lot of over 100 wolverine and gambits and the guy sent me these free, have no interest in the MWOM series so free to a good home? So.... comicvine.gamespot.com/the-mighty-world-of-marvel/4050-38235/Issues 6-13 are 13th August 2003 - 25th Feb 2004 Daredevil 168-175 Storm 3-4, Contest of Champions II 1-5, Captain America 110 Rampaging Hulk 8, Incredible Hulk 118-124 Quite a hotch potch and, CoCII aside, older material. Storm started in issue 4 Issue 1 is according to Comicvine "Marked for Murder!" "In the Hands of Bullseye" "The Monster or the Man?" Daredevil www.mikesamazingworld.com/features/series.php?seriesid=3988&page=gallerySo I make the first 2 issues Daredevil 159 & 160. Third one is a Hulk tale Issue 2's US Issues are on Comicvine Reprints Daredevil 161, Daredevil 163 and Rampaging Hulk # 2 Rampaging Hulk was a Marvel US mag previously printed in Rampage UK Monthly www.mikesamazingworld.com/features/series.php?seriesid=4624&page=galleryDD 162 was a fill in. Which would make Issue 3 164 & 165 - 3 has DD 165's cover, Issue 4 166 and Issue 5 167 By my count issue 4 then contains the seventh DD strip they've printed, 166, which is this one: www.mikesamazingworld.com/features/comic.php?comicid=46820What's the significance of this? I have one issue of the UK Daredevils from the 80s comicvine.gamespot.com/daredevils/4050-22944/The issue I have is the 7th and it's the exact same strip! I find this rather satisfying! Now it shouldn't be a complete surprise, it is the Frank Miller run and if you're printing one older Daredevil run this is what you go for. MWOM covers keep track with the us strip as far as DD 188 and MWOM 25 so I'm guessing they finished the Miller run.

Excellent Legends issue this month. And not just because it has a sensible spine. All three strips are firing on all cylinders. I've really come to like the Captain America storyline and am quite excited about Secret Empire.
I need more Zemo. What I've read of his character in the last few years in Panini books I've really liked.

Captain America: Death of the Red Skull, Thunderbolts Classic and New Thunderbolts books should tell you all you need to know.
Very much enjoying the Jane Foster Thor. I've got the Unworthy Thor Odinson story that's just about to start and that's rather good.
Should use up 5 of the 6 Thor slots in the remaining issue of this volume
