Following our 20 plus mile hike last weekend, inbetween watching some godawful Turtles episodes we turned to some Sunbow and Season 3. Picked at random was The Dweller in the Depths (along with The Big Broadcast of 2006 and The Quintesson Journal)). Some nice, non Akom animation, not up to Call of the Primitives standards but charming in it's own way and with quite a good story.
I really am finding myself enjoying more of the Season 3 episodes with the changes of the continuity, and the focus on the Quintessons and their relationship with the Transformers and their origins.
While I do like the more mythical aspects of the Marvel UK origin, there is something bleak about them being manufactured for commerce and war that appeals to me.
I did also scare Burns with my ability to recite The Big Broadcast of 2006 word for word a la The Rebirth.

Story wise, I find season three to be the most watchable of the old cartoon. In a time when I cant even make it through one episode of seasons 1 or 2, or even the movie, i can usually get through at least a full episode of season 3, god awful animation aside. The over all plots are usually much deeper and more complex, and more original than the standard "megatron's new nutty scheme to conquer earth" plots of the first two. And has some shockingly dark humor.
Megatron is a credible threat, why? Only in Beast Era, Animated, and pre-ahm idw was anyone named Megatron a true threat.

I've long found Season 3 to be the best of Sunbow, but it's been a while since I last saw any so I'd have to watch again to pick out gems. For now I'll just state again that 'Fight of Flee' is hilarious and is an episode I'd stick on my own personal 'Best of..'

Fight or Flee is indeed splendid, it was the 2nd ep on the much watched The Big Broadcast of 2006/Fight or Flee vhs.
