30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #52Which may seem an insignificant moment on the surface, being part two of Shooting Star, but this issue featured the TRANSFORMERS STICKER ALBUM!! as a free gift. Oddly though it didn't come with any actual stickers. Who completed that then eh? I have mine still, complete. This is one of those mind expanding moments for me. 30 years ago today I'd have been on the hunt for sticker packets, and this morning I was doing the same thing on my quest to complete the Force Awakens sticker book. It never ends...

One of the only sticker books I completed as a kid. Mine isn't in great condition now, and the shiny Swoop alt mode sticker is in upside down. And there's a Carebears sticker in there too.

30 years since the issue with the glorious sticker album. Fuck me sideways. Feels like yesterday when mum brought it home. It felt exciting as the album was bagged in with the comic. This was when bagged comics signified something amazing and unusual rather than the generic crap littering shelves today.

Thinking about this retrospectively, this coming out at this point must have nixed the possibility of a sticker album for the movie. I think I'd rather have had that than a bunch of stills from the cartoons.

Thinking about this retrospectively, this coming out at this point must have nixed the possibility of a sticker album for the movie. I think I'd rather have had that than a bunch of stills from the cartoons. It exists, but is American. I got mine from some odds and sods shop as a kid, came with about 6 packs of stickers, never saw the separate stickers though, so it's very incomplete. Comes with a tech spec decoder style red plastic though, to let you see what some of the stickers you don't own yet look like.

cheaper oneand anotherDunno about postage on them though. I'm sure I've seen dealers with them at recent UK TFs show, no idea on asking prices.

Ooh. Now then. There's a thing.
I wonder what a completed one goes for.

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #54While the main strip gives us Part 2 of Rock and Roll Out, featuring the dulcet tones of Brick Springstern, and the backup strip features the last part of Robotix, tucked neatly in the centre pages is the legendary... SPECIAL TEAMS MINI-COMIC!I remember that Earth shattering moment very well. The sheer excitement of the possibilities. How fitting that this week I've been constructing my CW Menasor for the first time and he is stood here with me looking at his G1 self in comic form! TAKE HIM OUT DEAD END! Bonus robot points for anyone who can remember the oddity on the toy poster contained on the back.

Jaymz wins!!! Bruticus is displayed with Onslaught's head, which makes him look a bit odd.

Loved the sticker album, as I got a few Marvel UK comics at the time if memory serves me I had at least three albums at one point. One fully completed and one a fair way along and one with a few stickers in.

SPECIAL TEAMS is the great toy pack in comic that wasn't a toy pack in comic.

Thirty years ago this week, the letters page has the first reference in the comic to Ultra Magnus and Galvatron, as reader Andrew Bober questions what these figures he's found in a catalogue are... Soundwave's cryptic reply with hindsight is a reference to Target 2006 and the film.

Seems odd to already be hearing those names. Special Teams was a big moment for the line, but it didn't last anywhere near as long as Combiner Wars. March-ish until the summer? No wonder I only managed to get one of them.

My memory tells me it went on for a very long time but then the toys were on the shelves for years round my way and the childhood perception is different!

I suppose that's true; the toys were around far longer than they featured as the 'new thing' in the comic. They got short changed really with the timing.
