Given Phil and I's love-in for Warren Ellis' done in one tales over in Moon Knight and Secret Avengers I thought I'd throw the floor out for great single issue stories from the wonderful world of comics. One of my personal favourites has to be an issue of The Flash from DC Comics by William Messner-Loebs and Greg LaRoque. Issue No.54 entitled "Nobody Dies" and it's almost the perfect example of a superhero comic. Some more discussion about it here. goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2011/08/02/almost-hidden-nobody-dies-its-a-rule/Andy

Silent Interlude is a bit of a classic.
Bendis has done a few good done-in-ones in Sam and Twitch and Daredevil, though I couldn't give issue numbers or story names of the top of my head.
Paul Jenkins Peter Parker: Spider-Man has some gems.
There were some good character sketch issues by Jason Aaron in Wolverine and the X-Men in the late teens or so (Warbird and Doop spring immediately to mind).
Can't help but feel I'm missing some obvious examples though!
