I'm sure there must be a thread for this somewhere back down the line, but where have you learned by your mistakes when it comes to Transformers? I've had a prime example tonight.
I've mentioned before that I've been trying to restore a G1 Skywarp bit by bit, not that it was too knackered in the first place to be honest, but I was in the final stages of doing this when I realised the left purple tail fin was actually broken. Had a chip out of it. So having come across the very useful Transformerland.com website I bought a replacement fin, wondering at the time what the references in some of the tail fins to 'big hole' and 'little hole' versions meant. They all looked the same to me.
Two weeks later, today, the package arrived (with a junker Kickback too that I am going to combine with my broken eared one to restore him. Somehow.) and I excitedly tried to fit the new replacement fin to my Skywarp. But the black rudder didn't seem to want to go into the hole on the fin. Before I realised what I was doing I tried to force it, thinking it was just tight, and have now got *two* broken Skywarp tail fins, and have learned the hard way what the big hole/little hole thing means.
Some versions of Skywarp must have had a smaller peg on the black rudders, needing a smaller hole on the purple fins. So I've just tried to force a bigger peg into a smaller hole. It isn't actually broken, but the plastic's fractured. Had I realised what I was doing, a small file would have enlarged the hole on the fin enough to accept the rudder. I'm annoyed enough now though that I'm going to have to look for a proper large hole version of the tail fin to do it properly. I'm really pleased with what a proper scrub, some repro-labels and an assist from Nick with some missing weapon parts has done for this figure. I can't be having a broken tail fin now.
There should be a website that details all this. How to fix Transformers. That would be where I'd find the 'how to fix the electronics in Omega Supreme' document I'm longing for.
