So I had this idea, and would appreciate critiques, comments, and suggestions.
Ultimate Combination Optimus Prime is basically this.
At it's core, it is a deluxe or voyager sized G1 style optimus prime figure. Basic transformation, nothing fancy.
From cab to robot-
Rear section telescopes out, forming the traditional legs. Wheels collaps in a bit.
Arms fold out in very traditional manner. The front bumper splits in half, and along with front tires, rotate around and fold into the back.
Waist rotates 180% as legs move underneath.
Hands fold out from inner arms. Head folds out from inside the cab, and the windows steeple out a bit to give his chest some definition.
That's the basic robot. Now he's sold both seperately, and with a trailer. There's a reason for both releases.
The trailer he comes with is pretty G1. But it splits into three sections, and combines with Optimus into the powermaster supermode.
Optimus folds his head in, and transforms the upper half into his straight forward cab, leaving the legs as in robot mode.
The two rear pieces of the trailer clip onto his legs similarly to FansProject's City Commander armor.
The largest piece transforms into the arms, and super head, and connects to the back, wrapping around the sides, creating a similar look as the original PM Op.
Now here's where it gets "ultimate."
The core robot is designed to combine with many different trailers and even other transformers.
Multiple Trailers are released throughout the line, each one for specialized missions.
Fire Rescue mode
A trailer that turns him into a fire engine. The trailer cones with a few accessories that pop onto the cab, such as lightbar. His smokestacks fold away inside the cab.
Combining with the trailer, optimus assumes standard robot. Smokestacks fold away. Shoulders extend. The trailer breaks down and combines in a fairly straightforward way into RiD supermode.
Combat Mode
Smaller Armada style trailer. Includes shield and sword for Optimus.
Robot assumes PM combination mode. Trailer breaks down in a similar way, and combines in a similar way. shield attaches to supermode torso giving a similar look to the actual armada optimus.
Galactic Convoy Mode
Cybertron style trailer.
In vehicle mode can be pulled like normal, but the cab can collapse into it, converting into an interstellar craft.
Robot combination, very similar to RiD combination.
Trailer supermode attaches basically identically to the actual Cybertron Prime.
Then it also works with smaller scale stuff.
Drone Strike- General Energon homage. Team of four drones that can attach to his arms and legs, energon style.
Grimlock- a made up combination between these two, which I'm shocked has not been done before.
Wingsaber, Jetfire, Metroplex, Omega Supreme...
And if they keep the core basic figure in circulation without flooding, like, were he a deluxe then he's a single pack every wave for the course of the line? That way he's shortpacked, but he's assuredly in production.
