I'm playing Professor Layton now and loving it. I think I'm going to pick up the Final Fantasy IV remake afterwards - anyone played it?

A small digression but there's a natty wee homebrew painting program for the DS called Colors and it lets you paint a la photoshop. EJ Su has a wee video clip of one of his TF paintings in action available here. Seeing this has me sold on finally getting a DS. Andy

You won't be disappointed in getting one Andy. I brought one on the day it was first launched and, although my original DS has now been superseded by a more aesthetically pleasing version it is still the same console. A DS can actually be picked up rather cheaply at the moment with some of the more entertaining older games going cheap in games shops at the moment. If you want a game that is both easy and utilises all of the DS's function really well I suggest Project Rub. It was one of the early DS games and is very entertaining into the bargain.

I was mad keen on getting one, but every game I picked up was, er, crap. So it lay in a corner for six months before I got shot of it.

You didn't play Elite Beat Agents so your opinion doesn't count

There was a good letter in a Nintendo magazine that I once read about a disgruntled kid who wanted Project Rub but his mother wouldn't buy it him. The reason being was that the back of the box promised that you could 'touch, rub and blow' in the game and the mother thought it was some X-rated game that shouldn't be allowed to be sold in shops!

I got Dinosaur King last week and am really hooked. I liked the arcade game to start with and disliked the toon so there was a platform of interest to start with. The DS game is a Pokemon style RPG with the Arcade game fight scenes thrown in making a very enjoyable combination. DK is also very much more visually pleasing and rewarding than Pokemon with its 3D monster battles without the aid of a 'stadium' upgrade.

I hated Kirby for some reason. It got really good reviews but just left me cold.

How far did you get through it? I found the first few levels so drab and boring with little challenge, hence me losing interest... But picked it up again and find it ok. Not great, but a pleasant distraction.

I'd say its pretty linear compared to the movie game but still a lot of fun. The teamwork aspect really puts it over.

I am stuck on the Megatron level with the giant magnet. I don't know what to do and that Megatron laugh is downright creepy! O_0

I'm playing Chrono Trigger on my DS. I still find it hard to believe that this 15 year-old JRPG is better 99.9% of JRPGs released after it.

I got a DS for Christmas yaaaaaaay. I went out and bought the Zelda game, and completed it a few days later. The Temple of the Ocean king was a bit annoying sure, but I liked the hide-and-seek with the phantoms, and the items you get help you speed through the earlier levels of it

Time for some updates on my last months gaming. First of all I finished Chrono Trigger and its still superb after all this time. Its out in Europe now so if you have a DS you owe it to yourself to buy it. A milestone in gaming's short history.

There was a sign for a pre-order for some DSi thingy in HMV. What on earth is that?

It's the latest iteration of the DS. S'got some really weedy cameras in it- and a better resolution screen etc. A few nice features but nothing worth getting misty in the drawers for.

Just got Pokemon Platinum. Last time I played a Pokemon game was Fire Red on GBC. My girlfriend knows nothing about the game and is like, WTF?

My girlfriend wanted me to take Turtwig.
Are you able to trade with me and then we'll swap back again? I want to evolve my Kadabra/Machok etc.
Also - I was looking at the moves that my pokemon can learn at which level to decide when to evolve them and I saw that Turtwig and Grotle don't learn Earthquake like Torterra can.
He learns it at level 32, the normal evolution point... If I delay evolution into Torterra until level, say, 40, will he learn Earthquake when he evolves or will he have missed it?

You'll have missed it but not permanently. There is a Move Relearner in Pastoria City which you can give Heart Scales to, to relearn any move your pokemons current evolution can learn. Or I could just give you one of my many Earthquake TMs Yeah we can trade and trade back to evolve Kadabra and Machoke. Do you want a Piplup and Chimchar too? What's your friend code btw?

No trades Stom?
I'm playing through Chrono Trigger again in New Game + mode to get all the extra endings. Then I'll be onto Ace Attourney 4 and Secret Files: Tunguska (which I decided to give a go as it was only £7.50 on Amazon).
