Yeah I've got him already from a previous event. That one only works on Platinum anyway. I'm getting a Pokemon vibe again so I'll definitely pick up the remake of Gold and Silver when the surface next year. They come with a pedometer you can transfer a single pokemon to who will then earn experience for each real life step you take. Now I can play 24 hours a day!
Currently working my way through the second Layton. Puzzle have been very easy so far. Scribblenauts is out next week too.

Right I'm completely done with Layton. Overall it was good but not quite as great as the first game. The last puzzle was a complete bastard.
On to Scribblenaut which I'm loving so far. If you don't know about it you can write the name of any object and it will create it in the game. You then use these to solve puzzles. There are apparently over 10,000 objects you can create and I've only stumped it once (it didn't recognise yorkshire pudding to go along with my black pudding).
On each level you do a specific task but it's up to you how you do it. You can replay a level and it will challenge you to complete the same puzzle three times in a row, using different objects each time. On one level I had to knock down some stacked up bottles, which were on a table out of arms reach. First I dropped a safe on them. Then I knocked them over using a stampeding stegosaurus. Then I strapped on a jetpack, flew up to them and knocked them over using a mace. Fun, fun, fun.
I also lost about 20 minutes just on the intro screen. It's a sandbox where you can create anything you like. I was delighted when I created and Pirate and a Ninja and they immediately started fighting!

Ugh if ever a game got old, fast it is Scribblenauts. It has wonky controls which I forgave duing the initial period of unbridled joy, but they really get annoying in the later trickier levels. Also there's over 200 standard levels, each of which has to be played a total of 4 times to get a gold star. I've done about 50 levels, about 15 of which I've gold starred, and I'm getting pretty bored. You can conjured any item you like but sometimes only certain ones will do. On other levels the same solutions can be used over and over. You'd be amazed at what you can accomplish with a helicopter and a piece of rope.
Comedy moments this weeks:
- I typed in 'nothing' and a black hole appeared sucking everything into it (including me) - I created a time machine and went back to the middle ages

Any idea if Mario and Luigi Bowser's inside story is any good? Also new Zelda coming up. This time Link has a train.

I'll be getting Zelda but I'm not sure about Mario and Luigi. The first DS was poor compared to the superior Paper Mario RPGs, but I've heard the new one is much better. I'll probably get it at some point.

What have I been playing recently:
Transformers: Decepticons (got for my birthday) Terrible game, terrible controls, you can win every single fight by strafing and shooting.
New Super Mario ('Borrowed' off my sister) Eeeeh. It's okay, I played it to the end but more out of a sense of duty than fun. It was really easy and unchallenging, but where it was hard it was frustrating rather than fun. Most of the fun and interesting bits are hidden areas, which seems a bit stupid.
Zelda: Spirit Tracks (got for Christmas) Excellent, excellent game. I loved Phantom Hourglass, but realised there were problems. This game fixes every single problem, and is amazing. I even did all the silly sidequests and got all the items! It is a shame it isn't completely free roaming, (you ride about on your train from town to town) but then again, I don't believe in criticising something for what its not.

Spirit Tracks is in the backlog waiting to be played later in the month. Looking forward to it.
NSMB is the weakest 2D Mario. The level-design is wonky and the fact you can't save at any time (until you beat Bowser) is criminal for a portable game. Fortunately NSMBWii has no such problems.

I'm (finally) getting round to buying a DS for myself next month. Can folks give me some various pro and cons? Should I go for a DS Lite, DSi or that new bigger one? What accessories should I get straight off? Recommend games?

I haven't played on my DS for quite some time which is a shame considering that I brought the original DS on launch day for the price it was at the time.
As for recommended games everyone is different. Out of the older games released for the DS I'd have to recommend Mario Kart DS, Project Rub, Super Mario 64 DS and Wario Ware Touched. The latter three utilise the touch screen wonderfully while Mario Kart is one of the better Mario Kart games in the series. I haven't brought any DS games for ages now so I can't actually recommend any games that I've played. I do however like the look of the new Zelda Spirit Tracks game and I might pick that up myself at some time.

The games I've enjoyed most are the two Zelda games, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Spirit Tracks is best, but both are amazing, and really use the touchscreen well.
I really liked Professor Layton and the Curious village. The sequel, Pandora's Box, is okay but feels more bitty, and the core mystery isn't nearly as clever as the first one.
Lego Batman is great and I even played it to get all the hidden features, but it doesn't really utilise the touchscreen.
I've got some games here I'm trying to sell if you're interested. Batman's the only really good one there, but the others are near enough Game/Gamezone trade-in prices if you feel curious then want to sell them on.

Gav, get Elite Beat Agents pronto. I'll give you more recommendations once you get (and love) that.

I've been recently really enjoying Dragon Quest IX. It is a bit straightforward, and there's a bit too much grinding at some points, but it is an absolutely massive game. I've just completed the main story, and that has barely scratched the depth of content in the game!
