IDW seem to be buying up a number of the big licences at the moment and I hope it doesn't run them into the ground and they have to cut some of their budget on other titles as a result.

Rather sensibly they do seem to be going for licenses that actually have some appeal outside of the direct market (take note Dynamite) and this should be another good acquisition.

I can't help but lament the fact that the Galaxy Rangers license has gone untouched. Can you imagine the joy of picking up a galaxy rangers comic which had the wee sound doobrey that novelty cards do that when you open the cover plays the theme tune at you.
Awesome doesn't even do it justice.

I must travel to a parallel universe where this is a reality.

That's useful for IDW as Simon Furman wrote the recent Terminator comic and seeing how he's already got his foot in the door at IDW with his work on Transformers this would work well.
What are the chances of IDW snatching the Thundercats comic licence as well?

I'm not sure that "Thundercats" would be worth IDW's while going after. The last series didn't exactly light the sales charts on fire even at the peak of eighties nostalgia. I'd suspect it is one of those franchises like "Battle of the Planets" and "Robotech" that aren't really viable in comics form as thing stand.

Makes sense for Dark Horse to pursue Angle after Buffy did well for them. Perhaps the licence was up for renewal.

Smart move from IDW. For their long-term future and ability to draw in talent they can't rely on mostly licensed books forever and they've been moving in this type of direction for a while.

It's a good fit, but now the speculation is on how long until Alan Moore throws a strop about something.

One line i've seen
"IDW will also be able to ensure that Top Shelf’s extensive catalog stays in print, and all creators receive royalties on the solid schedule IDW is known for."
So is this IDW are going to pay reprint fee to TS creators then? They don't for other TPB they print. That statement must be about TPB's because it says "stays in print"

Different contracts Pete. Top Shelf doesn't actually own much of the material it publishes, so while they get a cut, the creators of said material will get royalties.

He is a tedious little man. -Ralph But he did great work on Captain Britain and Halo Jones as well as the single best ABC Warriors story ever written. Oh yeah and that Watchmen thing, I hear that's quite popular.

I am of the belief that his DR & Quinch is Totally Awesome man.
Actually all of his short 2000ad is worth reading is you pick up a Time Twisters trade.
And his varied DC Universe stuff (is the trade still in print?) is well worth a read too.
All some 30 odd years in the past though.

Oh yeah and that Watchmen thing, I hear that's quite popular. Oh it can't be denied that he has done great work. I just think he comes across as a monumental prick and I personally find him utterly tedious. Sometimes we can like the work and not care for the creator (and vice versa). His greatest work, however, remains the Sinister Duck song. -Ralph

Really sad news tbh - thought he did a great job in getting TFs back into comics after the Dreamwave fiasco. Also gave breaks to some of the best TF artists of all time.

Of course vice versa may be the case, especially if the reboot was Hasbro mandated.

Or alternatively they may happen to both be happening at the same time. Coincidence does not necessarily indicate causality after all.
I hope that things work out well for him and he does well in whatever capacity he works in next - as he seems to have done at IDW.
