Nintendo Europe have updated their site - you can now exchange Star Points for Wii Points at 4:1. Shit rate but expected. There's some other cool stuff in the catalogue too. wiipointscard.nintendo.co.uk/

Didn't work for me at first either, but I've now bought some points. I'd give it it while before trying again.

The site worked long enough to reveal that you can buy your wii points in 100, 300, 500 and 1000 sizes. It then shows that all but the 100 point option is sold out. WTF? There's no physical product! How can they be sold out. I grabbed two of the 100 point options then the site died again.
edit: It came back and I was able to grab a third - only to find that "You’ve reached the daily limit. Please come back tomorrow."
Wankers.

Yeah this is fucking bullshit. I managed to get a 1000 point card before the site blew up on Friday afternoon. Tried again on the evening and they had 300 and 100 cards left - tried to buy a 300 card, and the site died again. Bought 2 100 cards yesterday and now they are all sold out.
Now I know this is all technically free stuff - I've bought the games so this is all just a bonus, but I'd prefer no reward system at all than this crap. It's really insulting to your customers to dangle a carrot in front of their face for months then yank it away.

Oh and on top off all this we all signed an agreement to allow Nintendo to gather data from our Wii's in exchange for this 'service'. I might unsubscribe.

I know the Wii has been an unparalleled success for Nintendo. Could the problem be too many users coming on at once and overloading the system? Doesn't excuse Nintendo, though, as they really should have been prepared for that sort of thing. Or it could be common or garden teething troubles. That the service has been promised for so long and is struggling now that it's open suggests a less than straight path of development.
Maybe.

Yeah Nintendo could have easily anticipated a huge response for this. I agree with Cullen on this one. I'd rather they had NO points system at all, instead of this garbage.
How can they be sold out of Wii points? Someone explain it to me.

Hang on you don't even get your 5 points for visiting the site everyday anymore. This just gets better.
Gav, essentially they can't be sold out as the only physical limit is the number of codes that can be generated. Which is 10^16 - probably less if you don't want people entering random codes and getting points.
The only real explanation is that Nintendo didn't want to give away too much free money. They might not be able to calculate exactly how many star points are floating about so took the decision to limit the supply. Still sucks balls though - why bother in the first place if that's the case?

maybe they've put a limit on the supply for now whilst they trial the service?
Or maybe! they're inept.

So yeah, i got in tonight and noticed there were two hundred '100 point' cards available. With somewhat grim determination i clicked onto to the purchase link, only to be told it's down for maintenance.
I'm going to shoot Nintendo, next time i see him.

No, you want to shoot Nintendo of Europe, who is Nintendo's braindead half-brother. Nintendo is the guy who makes all those cool games; Nintendo of Europe is the twat who doesn't let us play them for months.

I'm still so pissed off about this. I now resent putting money into my VC points. I want Cybernator, dammit!

There was that day where we just had the 100 point cards, then I think the next there was a few 300 point ones. But since then nothing. The worst thing is whilst I've been sat waiting to see if any more will appear, stuff on the shop has been selling out. I was thinking sod it, I'll just get some of those Mario Kart racers but they've sold out now. TBH though I'd rather let the points expire than spend them on sodding wallpapers.

Hrm... The service seems a lot more reliable now. It's still ridiculous that a lot of the cards are out of stock, but at least I'm able to log in and find 100/300 cards every few days.

There were 1000 and 500 point cards over the weekend so I managed to spend the rest of my points. Just keep checking - they are adding more on a regular basis at least.

Ooo, they're down to just 100 and 300 point cards at the moment, but it's better than nothing.
I don't quite get the need for codes though. Our Wii and NOE accounts are linked afterall. Why can't we just be credited with the points, instead of all this faffing around?

I had a lot of problems with the website a few months ago when I registered and they said that my e-mail adress was invalid every time I tried to put some of my points in despite them sending me an e-mail confirming that I had registered. Today I tried to re-register only to hit some kind of security code problem. 'Please enter the security code below to confirm registration' it says. I do that and get a note saying I've typed in the wrong security code. Second attempt and still the same. Third attempt and still the same. In fact I tried about ten times to type in the correct security code but kept on getting the same reply. To hell with the b0ll0ck$.
