Ah well white legs, looks like I'll just get the cheaper Hasbro option and paint em. Apparently that shot uses the Hasbro version. So we need to wait for the Japanese one Legend Ultra Magnus (red thighs) with Alpha Trion bwtf.com/node/4080

Yeah unhappy in a happy way. Getting red legged Magnus, it looks so much better to my eyes, but want Minimus so have to get Hasbro. But I can wait till I find the Hasbro version cheap.

Interestingly, having seen both now... I actually prefer the white thighs. Clearly there's something (else) wrong with me.

I expect the Japan Alpha Trion Magnus to have a better main toy paint job - seeing all Japan toys do have better paint jobs that the 100% cheap plastic looking Hasbro releases. But how many time can Magnus be repainted? They have to do Nemesis Magnus black cab & red trailer but who could Minimus be?

With minor remolding, Magnus becomes Armada Overload super easily. With heavy remolding he becomes Powermaster Optimus.

I will eat my hat if he ever turns up at UK bricks-and-mortars stores. No way can Magnus break through the inevitable double-Megatron shelf-warming event horizon!

The thing is the Megatrons are 1 of each per case. If anything the problem might be the Armada ones being left on the shelf. I think they could have sold solid cases of the G1 Megatron.
I'll start hunting for a supplier of hat shaped cake for Swincon just in case.....

Why does Magnus have his missile-pods on a stick? This seems...inefficient somehow.

His weapons (rifle, plus pods) combine to become the magnus hammer, made famous in Animated.

Any reports you've heard about Magnus not being able to hold the guns properly are true, it's not great. He can hold the hammer just fine, there's some rings on the hammer that slot into his forearm armour to hold it in place.
However there does appear to be a sweet spot where they sit in the hands just fine: the lip on the underside of the handle is just tucked under the fingers. The lower end of the rear of the handle is resting against the palm. The bottom of the trigger is resting on the index finger.
The grip is secure enough that I can pick Magnus up, shake him from side to side and the guns stay in place.
I'm very much of the opinion that Hasbro ****ed this up and should have had 5mm peg hole fists anyway, I'm not a fan of articulated hands for this very reason. Magnus is having problems because the gun handle moulding doesn't quite match the hand moulding: I think you'd have more success if the thin front of the trigger was shaved off allowing the gun to sit in the hand better.
A question: the main gun is reminding me of something. Any suggestion?

Ignore that, concentrate on his articulated hands not holding his gun properly when they would if they had a simple hole

Mine is still snug in his box. Poor, poor Ultra Magnus. Little does he know that as soon as he's freed from his cardboard container, he'll be helpless when facing the forces of darkness .
Magnus! GET A GRIP!!!
I CAN'T DEAL WITH THAT NOW!

UM though was almost exclusively a toy, since once the cartoon was off air, that's all there was for him over here. Here it's different. In many ways Magnus is THE Transformers UK comics character. It also made him extremely unique. Supermodes and armore upgrades were unheard of back then. UM was the first. Optimus was the second. And that was pretty much it. Yup it was a special toy. Still is. Love my original Magnus. So for me, they sacrificed one of THE most important parts of UM to go straight into super mode. I can deal with the same thing from Optimus far more easily, since because of fiction, the supermode is what made PM Optimus special. My PM Op never came out of Super Mode. It's soooo good. Would love to see an updated Generations or MP version. That said, a bit heavier retooling COULD include a deluxe sized G1 optimus. It honestly wouldn't be that much more difficult. Though by then we're approaching the point where it's better to just design one from the ground up. *IF* Magnus does get remoulded as PM Op the cab is what I saw as the obvious bit to stay the same which made me ask the question.! Which is also why I was upset over the UM they gave us being IDW Minimus Albus based. Just get a pot of pale blue paint and repaint him as Magnus' buggy! www.diaclone.net/orid/dia057/index.htmlPale blue because the Diaclone version, in red, is the same colour as Diaclone Magnus' forearms, shoulders and head! never noticed before that Diaclone Magnus has FOUR plastic colours to TF Magnus 3: Parts | Diaclone | Transformers | Trailer Base/Robot Body | Silver | Red | Trailer Upper Deck & Doors, Robot Waist | Black | White | Trailer Supports/Robot Feet & Chest Plate | Dark Blue | Pale Blue | Forearms, Head & Shoulders | Red | Pale Blue |

Just opened this bad boy up. Amazing, I love the cockpit, the detail, everything about him! Also, not having any issues with the rifle
