Quite disappointed in everyone in the forum (myself included) for missing this gem that came out last year.
I was alerted to this via Ralph who found the novelisation in his library.

I first heard of it this weekend, but only got around to looking into it yesterday evening. Although it was shot last year I don't think it has actually come out yet. The last release date I heard was the back end of next month I thought?

Disappointed in myself for not knowing about this. Had a quick look online and apparently it was out in Germany last year plus appeared at the London Film Festival. Proper UK release is 27th March.
Filmed in Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man apparently.

The novel is a decent wee yarn for 8-12 year olds. The film itself appears to have been buried. One cinema showed it in Edinburger but for a week at 10:30am only so couldn't see it. Buggered if I can find any news of a home video format release.

DVD at some point: www.amazon.co.uk/Robot-Overlords-DVD-Gillian-Anderson/dp/B00V685VS6Unintentional amusement at the tagline being 'Mankind may fall'. The use of the word 'may' implies the peril may not be so bad after all!!! I'll pick up when it comes out. I feel obliged to support it after reading the very enthuiastic diary notes of the screenwriter in the back of the novelisation. -Ralph

Forgive my dumbassness, but why was it buried? Why wasn't it shown places?

Nothing more mysterious than the typical fate for many micro-budget UK films.

But WHY?

It also doesn't feature any American comic superheroes and it isn't adapted from a YA novel featuring a plucky female protagonist, so in the current climate it's fucked.

Blu-Ray in Asda £9.00.
watched this evening. Pleasant enough, not going to win any awards, definitely made with the hope of a sequel or two!

I watched it for free & I didn't like it. It feel like you fell asleep for 2 hrs during the middle of it. Everyones on the run at night then suddenly they have got quad bikes & the middle of the day just 2 seconds later.
It could be worst if bay had done it we would have had 30 min of Gillian bouncing up & down on that horse.

The DVD has materialised in my Tesco - not just creeping onto the shelves like something like Jack and the Beanstalk, or Transformers 4, but in the form of a big cardboard display unit full of £8.00 DVD's and emblazoned with the strapline "Like Transformers meets Doctor Who"

Seen this courtesy of my rental service now. It is ok, competent enough for its low budget.
Actually, my primary thought about it is that it is the sort of thing that back in the late 1980's it would have been the sort of thing that would have been one of those sort of Saturday teatime series that we don't really do these days.

Finally seen this now. Beauty of the random weekly delivery from Lovefilm, it gets there in the end. I concur with Legios. Almost a Tripods vibe before it went all Independence Day at the end.
Having strong Manx connections it was great to see Peel as the backdrop for a film. I recognised most of the locations used from being there many times.
