Next year marks the 20th anniversary of Beast Wars, AND the 15th anniversary of Robots in Disguise.
It saddens me that as CW is a two year deal, that Hasbro will probably allow '16 to pass without marking either anniversary. (Makes me wonder if this is why Rattrap, Rhinox, Waspinator, and Skybyte came out last year) It's just a pipe dream, but I wish we could have an entire year of Generations dedicated to both.
I've been trying to wile away my insomnia formulating a full year's worth of BW/RiD Generations, though I'm having some trouble. I figure/plan for four waves of legends, three each. Four waves of deluxes, four each, plus one filler wave of cheap easy repaints. Four waves of voyagers, two each A couple leaders. Several platinum sets that make sense for the year.
Legends: Comprised largely of only four truly unique molds. The Spychanger is one base mold, with the same gun and robot parts, but features complete reshelling of the car parts, plus new robot heads.
Wave 1 •Hotshot •Ironhide •Slapper
Wave 2 •Crosswise •Mirage •Darkscream
Wave 3 •WARS •Rev •Gaskunk
Wave 4 •Nightglider •Spittor
---- Deluxe:
Wave 1 •Dinobot- show accurate repaint U. Dinobot •Optimus Primal •Transmetal Cheetor •Sideburn- Designed with an IDW earth mode Hotrod down the line.
Wave 2 •Buzzsaw- Gen Wasp, new head. •Tigatron- designed with an extensive retool for season 1 cheetor down the line •Blackarachnia •Prowl- Designed with an IDW Sideswipe retool in mind
Wave 3 •Ravage- Retool of TM Cheetor •Terrorsaur •Inferno •X-Brawn
Wave 4 •Tarantulas- HEAVY retool of BA •Quickstrike •Silverbolt •Airazor
Filler Wave •Movor- CW Blastoff repaint •Rotor- CW Vortex repaint •Armorhide- CW Brawl repaint •Rollbar- CW Swindle repaint
--- Voyager: megatron and Scorponok are intended to be small for voyagers, with added accessories to push them to the voyager pricepoint.
Wave 1 •Megatron w/ hover platform •Cybershark- Gen Skybyte repaint
Wave 2 •Scorponok w/ bee drones •?
Wave 3 •Depthcharge •Mega-Octane- CW Onslaught repaint
Wave 4 •? •?

That's some pipe dream!
I would like to see a few more of the beasts done to the quality of last year's generations figures. Inferno and Transquito would look good because they're more complex insect types, and B'Boom and Bonecrusher for the Autobots. Could you get a Transmetal 2 Megatron out of the Supreme Beast Hunters Predaking with a bit of remoulding?

That is a fascinating idea. Although, much as I love Beast Wars, I don't know if I want to see "anniversary" editions of the toys, mainly because I thought the originals were so damned great. The quality of the Beast Wars toys was what drew me back into collecting Transformers - no longer were these toys inarticulated bricks, they were super-poseable with integrated weaponry! They were brilliant! And I know that technology's moved on, but considering how pared-back the designs of the non-Masterpiece toys are becoming, I don't know if I'd want to see "re-interpretations" of Beast Wars toys at this time.
That said, though... I do still love Beast Wars and Beast Machines, and all of that era. To see Hasbro celebrating it too would be fantastic, and so I do love your idea Jetty. It won't happen, but we can dream. :-)

Ultra Magnus! We know how everyone loves RID Ultra Magnus toy. Lets have a redo of it - but this time maybe not making it bad & falling apart. But Fire Convoy falls apart too & he's a good toy. I do think the toy is ok if you keep it in one mode & use it to pull 3 cars around, then it does its job with no problems.

Oh yeah, I'd very happily buy an updated Fire Convoy. AWESOME toy. Actually, perhaps that one's like Llama says, how could you better the original? you'd end up in an Armada Megatron situation.

The track record for modern updates, ie post G2, is poor, admittedly from a very small sample
GOOD
Rhinox, though I worry about the rubber parts long term Armada Starscream but maybe a bit too small Waspinator but fragile RID Scourge RID Skybyte
GOOD BUT DIFFERENT
BWX Optimus BWX Megatron
OK
Rattrap
BAD
Tankor Cheetor Dinobot Hot Shot Armada Megatron

With G1 toys there's always something can be done with articulation. But with more modern toys what can you do? Rhinox works because it sorts his size and gives him the onscreen weapons. What other more modern toys need something done to them?

I agree with Phil that non G1 tend to be harder to update, unless the original lacked a major screen accuacy like Rhinox.
I dont entirely agree with Phils list though. I think Rattrap is excellent and Tankor is a fun Actionmaster Elite. Dinobot, Cheetor and Hotshot aren't great, but the majority of the Universe line aren't holding up that well. In my opinion only Hound and Cyclonus are as good as what came before and after.
Combiner Wars will probably be on to the beast combiners next year so I'd be a bit surprised if there isnt a Beast Wars repaint set. Ditto a CR Fire Convoy set once the remaining vehicle sets are out. And CR Gigatron from Hungur has potential too.
Legends and Leader class offer some non combiner slots for either line too.

Yes, Andy K's right the Tankor Robot is OK, but could be better. The tank wangs chung though.
Rattrap's beast ears annoy me in robot. TF is a little too complicated. And it feels fragile. Apart from size I don't think it gives us much that the original rat didn't have.

Okay, I'll admit that the updated Rhinox does look more screen-accurate than his toy, which is a plus. But then both Mainframe and Hasbro worked hard to get their representations in line after the first season, so there are not a lot more that are needed. (Although, that said, I really don't like update-Rhinox's rhino-mode mouth...)
An update to Fire Convoy, though, that didn't fall apart at the drop of a feather would be welcome...

Never been a problem with mine.
Chipped chrome on the smaller robot chest however....

Uh.. I like the Universe Dinobot. And if I'd drunk anymore, I'd defend Cheetor as well.

I'm with LlamaGod some of the original BW toys are still top notch, but a really nice Tarantulas and Blackarachnia would be most welcome.

Dinobot was really good. It just desperately needs an accurate deco to bring it to life. Cheetor isn't a bad toy, it's just a terrible Cheetor. Best looking alt mode out there, though. If it were done as a different character, say BW animated Prowl homage, it might change a lot of peoples opinions.
But yeah, many of the season one bots DO need updates, even if they had steller toys. PreTM Optimus and Megatron, their toys are dramatically oversized compaired to their portrayals. One could argue either way for Optimus being a deluxe or mega. And Megatron was squarely a mega. (Personally, I'd prefer Optimus being a bit smaller than Megatron, hence I put him as a deluxe) Scorponok had kind of a sucky toy, and overall had the second biggest difference between toy and screen, next to Blackarachnia. Plus likewise his size had him being deluxe or basic (alternated, honestly. He got smaller over season one). I figure a lot of plastic mass would go in his tail and pincers, making a smallish voyager look like a beefy deluxe.
Also, these toys are really old. A lot of them don't exist any more (the car robot brothers, a lot of BW molds like Ravage). The original toys are not available outside of dropping huge amounts of cash on the second hand market, and their molds are not available to reissue. I don't quite understand the "Doesn't need an update" mentality. It's kind of complicit in keeping a version of a popular character out of the hands of fans who weren't around then, whom may not want to drop ninety bucks or more on a Beast Megatron. If they were under ten years old like Classics and on, I could see it.

I don't think not needing an update means we don't necessarily want to see the toys again. There are many toys I'd honestly say wouldn't bother me if they were never updated, but reissued is another matter and I do think periodic reissues of older toys is a good thing.
I do think Hasbro get it wrong in their choices a lot though. Let's suffice it to say we never need the original Combaticons to be reissued again!
I'd love to see some of the Beast era toys get reissues, but I still think the Ape Optimus Primal is damned near perfect. Megatron could do with an update just to give him hands.

I dont think the cost arguement against the originals is great, There aren't that many Hasbro releases from BW or RID that is much more expensive than original retail for loose complete.
Robotmasters Primal and Megatron, (or the original Ultras) Cheetor (I remain a big fan of the original), Terrorsaur, Henkei Dinobot along with the the recent Waspinator, Rattrap and Rhinox don't need updating. Maybe better colours and even a new head.
Scorponok, tarantulas and Black Arachnia are the priorities for updates, though I wouldn't say no to an update of Terrorsaur. I suppose Inferno too, the toys pretty screen accurate I just dont like it.
RID I can't imagine a close update would offer much improvement over the originals (which are as with BW aren't that expensive), but if reissues are not an option I'd be interested to see a bit of a reimagining. Using some of the Prime design philosophy, the use of kibble to form limbs in particular.

Although I was the one who said "they don't need an update", I will agree that re-issues, on the other hand, are a completely different matter. After all, I only got most of my Season 1 cast from the 10th Anniversary re-issues. (And completed Transmutate - hurrah!)
That said, I'm also the person who said "Why do we need MP-10 - isn't MP-01 close enough to perfection?", and look at how wrong I was there. I'm more than open to being surprised. ;-)
Especially since, as bogatan reminds us, there *already* exist some pretty damned nifty updates of BW Primal and Megatron in the Robot Masters line. Which, again, is exactly what provided me with my BW Season 1 Megatron (I was never much a fan of the Ultra version of that character).
So, yeah, go ahead and update the Beast Wars toys. Just do something amazing when you do - the bar's already set pretty high. ;-)
