I went back quite some ways, because I thought there was a thread for SS, but couldn't find it.

Thank you! But Harley looks amazing, though. I'm not a fan of the look, going by the trailers or the posters. But then, they are just extending a trend with Harley that has been accelerating in an over-sexualised direction since the first Arkham game and does not really agree with me. I prefer my Harleen Quinzel to be more "odd" than "on display". I'm still not sure if I was going to go and see this. I had the opportunity today but ended up deciding I'd rather go see Jason Bourne punch people instead. It has come to a pretty pass when they do a movie-version of Suicide Squad and my reaction as a long-time fan of the Ostrander stuff is more "do I _have_ to?" than "how soon can I get a ticket?" Karl

I've never been interested in the comic series and have found the director's previous films to be tonally very nasty and unpleasant to watch so I shall give this is a miss. It's just not for me.

Karl There was one shot in the movie where Harley and Joker emulate the Alex Ross Batman Harley Quinn cover, original costume style, looked good. One of the few things DC Nu52 did right was to desexualize Harley's origins, where she actual earnt her doctorate rather than sleeping her way to the top. The pre-Rebirth series even had her accepting her relationship with the Joker was a purely abusive one and moving past it and him. Only took 25 years, but they finally got there. This movie is full-on abusive relationship territory though, which I'm hoping they quickly move past if Harley gets a solo flick.

I'll be honest I hadn't followed what they had done in terms of changing her for the comics. In my head she still has the same origin she had in B:TAS, which didn't mention anything of that. Ehhhh. Right, that is another reason for me to skip it then. Considering that even Bruce Timm was backing off on that within about a year of introducing her... I was pondering this yesterday and I think you have tipped the scales, I'm skipping the Squad I think. Plenty of other things coming out which look less unappealing. Karl

Not as good as suggested by the trailers. Still much better than MoS and BvS:DoJ.

FInally watched it.
Didn't hang together very well, and quite distasteful in places.

I liked some of the characters or at least the actors performances, Smith and Robbie and whoever was playing Waller? Ozzy bloke too.
Oh and Batfleck continues to make me happy.
but yeah it was a mess of a film.
Joker was terrible. I want to watch a good Harley Quinn movie, but I do not want to experience Letos Joker again.

You might be right, but in all likelyhood I'll rewatch Suicide Squad for the performances I liked long before BvS.
BvS is the Attack of the clones of the DCU, if I could watch a version with about all of the Superman side removed (also probably lex too now that I think about it), then great, but as is it'll be a long time before I can bring myself to do so. Everything about it aside from Batflack wore me down.

So I finally saw this. It was a servicable popcorn flick, and considerably the most fun this continuity has been since they decided to leave Krypton in MoS (seriously, the Krypton part was amazing, the rest...ugh)
But what's hilarious? After all the wretched scummy BS Leto pulled on and off set, and going on and on for months endlessly in interviews about how torturous being Joker is... His Joker turns out to be the absolute blandest, most generic, and utterly unremarkable version of Joker that's ever been on a TV or movie screen. That guy in Gotham is kicking his ass royally. Mark Hamill is the most iconic Joker there ever was, and manages to do it without being a terrible human being. Even Jesse Eisenberg gave a better performance as Joker in BvS. And he wasn't even Joker!
As for Harley/Joker, supposedly there was a lot more in the story, and the movie was supposed to spotlight their relationship as being terrible as it is, and be her learning to free herself of it. But supposedly two things happened: all the shite Leto pulled resulted in the director cutting a ton of his stuff out as punishment, and the other thing was BvS happened. WB wasn't too happy with fan reaction to it being so grimdark, and resulted them wanting Suicide Squad to be much tonally lighter, and thus even more Joker/Harley scenes got cut. The result paints their relationship as Abuse=love. From what I hear they're on the DVD, though.
Maybe Gotham Sirens will correct this, but this is the Nu51 based DCCU, and the same director though, so my expectations aren't high. There's always Wonder Woman, Flash, and Aquaman though. Those three are shaping up to be the three that make the DCCU.

Thought the lass playing Enchantress was one of the most wooden and dead eyed performers I have ever seen. Taking the crown from Harry Hamlin and Monty Sopp.

Andu made me watch Suicide Squad today. Sadly I must report it was by far the most boring film I have watched in quite some time. Nowt to get annoyed about, just banal in every department. I doubt it will stick in my memory!

BVS DOJ is one of those films for me that is utterly rubbish but yet still very enjoyable. Affleck is so awful as Batman he comes round the other side to greatness. It's the only Synder film I can sit through.

No Eurovision this week so I had to watch this. I'm ambivalent really. I know absolutely nothing about the DC universe so I'm not invested in these characters. Some truly awful dialogue. It spent forever having to infodump all the character backgrounds because there were so many and even then I didn't really feel like I knew any of them. Marvel does this so much better, but I had to wonder if this is what people who know nothing about Marvel get out of the MCU, ie, a bland action film full of posturing and nothing else.
Reckon a better film would have been to cut half the cast and just focus on Will Smith's character.
