Didn't you get a regiment or something, Baron von Spunk? Well that will never do! What would you like, infantry, cavalry or artillery? Ooh, I'll take infantry. Are we too early for Rifles?

Yes, sadly. I believe rifles wont come in until later this century, and wont become widespread until the beginning fo the next centur! But there's no way I could know that obviously, 'cos it's only 1740. And I tend to focus on the diplomatic and geo-political nature of history as oppose to the nature and technological aspects of the individual wars themselves, being a 'philosopher-king' n'all. But Infantry it is! The heart of the Prussian army! With my BEST Baron-General at it's lead!

Rifles were developed during the 1700s and did exist during Shockprowl's current period of fascination, but he's right in saying they were more widespread later on. They were used during the American war of Independence in the 1770s, but in popular history the rifle (the name is derived from the spiral grooves down the inside of the barrel, making them distinct from a musket and much more accurate) is remembered from the Napoleonic era and the Peninsular war. The 95th Rifles of Wellington's army were regarded as the crack shots, the snipers of their day, because they used the awesome accuracy of the Baker rifle instead of the outgoing Brown Bess muskets of the rank and file.

Er, oh and none of these things were as accurate as Shockwave. Who doesn't have spiral grooves down his barrel.

Er, oh and none of these things were as accurate as Shockwave. Who doesn't have spiral grooves down his barrel. Yes, but Shockwave is also not hampered by little things like windage, projectile drop, or the need to lead his target. Seeing as he is using various forms of laser he does rather avoid most of the problems that accompany projectile weapons... Cheating alien robot that he is. Karl

Lurkers to this forum must wonder what on Earth is going on here in the last week! I don't think it's limited to lurkers, nor the past week.
