This seems to be one thing that has disappeared in games. We got the black & white ones for the UK - but if you happen to get the Japan game you found it was in full colour & had story details in it. So why aren't these on a view file on the disc?
ie on Xbox dashboard when you press for the game details should have view instruction manual.
But this can also relate to toys too - we don't have the full colour ones from the Classics, now we have the pictures & you have to try & work out what to do. It must make it harder for Hasbro making the instruction manual too with only having a visual instruction. Just image telling someone how to make a drink but only showing images compared to text.

3DS and Wii U still have electronic manuals for games, although paper copies have pretty much disappeared now. Story details tend to be covered by cinematics these days and controls are often taught in-game - and brawlers have in-game move lists, so I guess developers just don't see the need for them.

Lack of paper manuals infuriate me. When I asked The Man for an instruction manual so I knew how to work my current phone (my first smartphone) he looked at me as if I had must urinated over his shoes. Whenever I have to work out something new with the phone I have to ask someone else as there is no $!*\!*!\\ paper manual.

Where's the manual to show you where the manual is. I've just been looking on xbox one trying to find the storage area & you just have to go into it blank. You should have a setting screen on the front when you start it up.

Re phones - they want you to ask in the shop so they can up sell some over priced accessories.
These days games have in game tutorials to teach you controls and mechanics. Unless they're well integrated into the first level I'm not a fan at all. To me they break up the immersion of the story with too much stop start.
Original Tomb Raider did it so right with an optional stage set in Lara's mansion.

Here's a cheat that was printed in Games master magazine once.
Press the start button to start the game.
then they never printed my code for 25000 rings for Sonic but they printed that has a cheat
