I see what they want to do. When I first found out about Beast Machines, I wondered if it had some link to Machine Wars. So I dont have a problem with that.
Nor do I worry that not all the MW originals are in this. If a suitable mould isnt available its better not to have it. In the case of Prime I dont really want a Prime toy repainted as MW Prime its not different enough overall, and the nature of the chest means only a Prime that has a fake chest would really work. Also I'd want it without a face plate and its not worth a brand new head for that. There might be some non Prime moulds out there that would be interesting though.
I want Megaplex because its the only unique element of MWs, for me they did get the best mould but whatever they say it would be better with a new head. And since the mould ids in use it means theres still a chance for Jhixaus from it in the add ons.
I'm clinging to that thought right now.

Finally caught up on this; I think this is the most disappointing Botcon set I've ever seen, especially when you take into account the theme. Skywarp is the most interesting but still not something I would pay exclusive prices for and the use of the Dreadwing mould is shockingly dull. I should probably be grateful that it isn't a set I will be coveting, though do still kind of hope they manage another good Action Master homage in the other sets.

Not bad. Who does that leave?
Thundercracker, Prowl, Soundwave... someone else?

The rumoured list has TC from movie Dirge which is pretty much certain as the character is on one of the caps.
Prowl will be from classic Mirage (I don't think they'll bother with MW Mirage)
Soundwave not on the rumour list right now but....
Starscream from Terradive (odd choice but I like it)
and the classic Starscream mould as the rainmakers (so utterly non Machine Wars there) seems odd as the troopbuilder is meant to be one mould in one colour to keep it cheaper.
I'm still expecting G2 Electro from the classics Kup mould with the new MW Hoist head. (I can also see it being used for MW Hubcap for obvious reasons, maybe as the custom class figure as thats now available to all)

That is not bad at all. Good colour scheme on rather a good toy. And as a homage to MW Sandstorm it is actually probably the best gunship toy they could have picked. Karl

I hope they don't do Electro... I actually really want that one.
I think there's a bit of BS with that list. Starscream makes no sense as a mold choice, which sounds about right for them to ignore the already in use and utterly PERFECT Dreadwing mold. The Rainmakers makes zero sense as a troopbuilder from what troopbuilders actually are ment to do... one mold, decoed one way in a multipack to increase production and cut down on the total, making them affordable (Which FP has gotten money hungry on and raised them obcenely high)
The presence of the rainmakers makes me think this one isn't on the up and up.

The Dreadwing mould was a late addition, so its possible they never had the time to change the add ons.
Personally the more I see of the set the more it feels like a set that has been butchered by Hasbro refusals.
Maybe they had a Pre Beast Machines set that they couldn't get past Hasbro or ran out of moulds to make it work and they had a Machines Wars set that also wasn't working so they dropped the best 2 BM toys into it.
From the beginning they have been all "this is Machine Wars series 2" with new characters, not a remake of the originals, but as of now there are 2 non original MW characters (plus the rainmakers if that one proves correct) and more than half the original line up.

Is it really so hard for FP to do one convention set/story right?
Even if Hasbro completely cooperates, they end up with a huge amount of WTF added on. If not in the set, then in the story (like SG's comic focusing on a character and toy who's not one of theirs)
I think the only ones that seem to have not suffered from this on some level are the Animated set and story, and Decent into Evil.
Everything else tends to have some hugely questionable content. "Why is the story about this dude and not that one. Why is this character in the box set when he's not even in the story? Why was this one even made? What does THIS have to do with the theme?"
Botcon set themes are more like extremely loose guidelines, or suggestions to FP.

I never see the need for Fan Rage On The Internet over these sets though. They're made for a con, not for the shelves of shops. Unless folk are going or pre-ordering a non attendee pack this stuff isn't aimed at them anyway. That's why they're called 'exclusives'.

I do and don't. In sets this size though there no reason they shouldn't throw in something new each year.

A pony is too expensive to produce for the size of production run. But we can do a remould on a sheep to give it a horse head and label it as a pony.

Mirage? Surely Classics Mirage isn't that far off?
The Terradive mould is a good fit for MW Starscream (apart from being half the size). If the Rainmakers are the Classics Starscream mould then Toy-fu's American Expedition are under advice to gather as many as possible.
Any takers for Mirage and Thundercracker here?

Getting a Starscream out of Terradive isn't a bad choice at all. It isn't much like the original MW version, but it retains that "non-conventional" airframe" schtick that the original had. I don't always agree with all of their choices, but that is adecent one.

Nope. They are as-yet unseen, but will probably turn up online by this evening. Thundercracker will probably be the same mould as Skywarp in the boxset.

Just got them. Haven't opened them all yet, but electo is fantastic. Apparently the shoulders are wrong way around on it and hoist but I can't figure out if it's a problem.
And atarscream look good too.

Electro is curiously appealing and I quite like the look of Skywarp still, but this is the first BotCon in a long time where not one toy has stuck out as a must have. For which I am sort of thankful.

Word from the Toy-fu Botcontingent is that many Rainmakers will be available at a certain charity stall at a certain upcoming UK convention.
