It should be interesting. FP showed plenty of unused concepts over the years but there was always the sense they couldn't tell all for obvious reasons now that Petes not working for FP can open up.
Or at least is going to claim he'll spill all in order to get people through the door.
Its quite possible this is just an evolution of his "This is the best botcon set ever." Followed after the show by " Yeah there were some problem with the set. It was okay I guess."

For some reason the name 'Pete's Robot Convention' still bugs me. Like, everyone is supposed to know who Pete is?
Ugh.
Anyways, yeah, in effect saying to folks "Look what Hasbro stopped you having" seems like a dick move designed to piss as many people as possible off.

I strongly suspect year 2 of 'Pete's Robot Convention' will be called 'Botcon 2018'.

Nobody would want that Voyager Op a third time! (Fourth if you include Octane!)

I would. Though probably not that Actionmaster Prime.

I think the phrase 'likely would have been developed' pretty much states this as fact. He's saying this is what he and the people who usually come up with exclusives probably would have pitched, no more, no less. And I'd assume had they, Hasbro would have said "no, we're already using that Prime mold a million times"

I would prefer that Actionmaster over the generic Prime deco that was released. I would also take it as: Octane Scourge Toxitron Oiler DOTM Megatron Staxx Staks

And I'd assume had they, Hasbro would have said "no, we're already using that Prime mold a million times" Yeah but they advertized this as "See what would have been!" Which reads as "this is exactly what we had planned for Botcon 2017 if Hasbro hadn't denied it to you by taking the license away from us." I have no doubt this is something they might have pitched. But that's not how they present it. At least not in initially.

One might say that. -Ralph

Of all the times to take FunPub out of the picture it had to be just before they could do a bunch of Action Master homages. Aargh!

I can only assume that Pete has spent his down time finally learning what Transformers actually are. Otherwise we'd've got stuff of this calibre a hell of a lot earlier. The attention seeking prick.

As been said before, I don't believe for a second that this is definitively what Botcon 2017 would have been, which is what it's being billed as. That's disingenuous at best, and an outright lie at worst.
What I do feel though, is this is a look at what a botcon set could be, without Brian's asinine input mudding things up, and without Hasbro's general restrictions (reasonable or not). Because this would be the most coherent and strongest themed set, since Shattered Glass. Actionmasters, Pretenders, and UT, and completely unified by all being TR. Even Animated wasn't this coherent.

That's the thing. The plans we hear of have ALWAYS been better than what we've got, as the plans need to take into account: i) What the rest of Fun Pub team want ii) What Hasbro want iii) What molds are available Plenty of exciting-sounding exclusives were scuppered by all three of those. For example, I can't for the life of me seeing Hasbro wanting FP to make that Optimus Prime. It would rival extremely similar Prime figures just released in their boxset, and the mold would have probably been in use pumping them all out We'd have ended up with a set that was half of those and half... I dunno. Energon molds.

Yeah, this is clearly, we might have done this had we been allowed to.
Utter bullshit claims about it being what their set would have been.
They look very nice though.

I dunno. I think Pete's often-stated desire to eventually update all of the Action Masters has lead to some pretty ill-fitted reuses here. Speaking as someone who loves Action Masters and has always adored Skyfall, I'm not sure I'd have wanted any of these.

I think this more accurately showcases Funpub's inability to have any sort of coherant theme, and shovel shattered glass into anything and everything I enjoy how every single theme on their proposal list includes a Shattered Glass Galvatron.

SG had proved such a big hit in 2008 they knew any SG offered as an add on would sell. So if they couldnt fill out a set with the toys they wanted it was a safe bet.
They also liked the second add on slot for toys they had missed out on in previous years. Thundercracker had missed out for some reason the year before which is why it took a slot.
But yes the lack of theme is what hurt them long term. Up till 2011 I can recall most of every set without difficulty, after I'm lucky if I can recall half of each years or remember which year a toy is from.
