I think I'm still driven by the desire to fulfil collections. I don't need every Generations toy released, but I would personally like to have all the original characters at least up to 1987 represented in the current style as Hasbro seem intent on doing that. It's funny how perception works - MP Megatron at £170 seems ridiculous to me, completely preposterous, yet I bought Takara Fort Max last year for the same price and got almost no pleasure from him, yet that seemed okay because of his size. Why didn't you get pleasure out of Fort Max, Pins?

Because despite the changes made to the mould, he's just too like Metroplex to me. Metroplex was a jaw dropper, an amazing toy with an awesome city mode. Fort Max felt too compromised. The robot is not different enough and the base mode doesn't look right because it's basically a make-do reinterpretation of Metroplex instead of actually being Fort Max. There just wasn't anything exciting about it.

Classic Remolditis. If you force a mold too far, it under-delivers as the new character.
Pinwig, I- I'm sorry.

I'm the same with Fort Max to be honest. I mean he's BIG but both of his modes are rubbish. But hes BIG. I don't regret it.

I suppose I don't regret it, because he is part of the TR crew and completes the Headmaster set. If anything I wish I'd held out and picked off a Hasbro one when they were going for £120; the added extras the Takara one has don't really justify an extra fifty quid. Heaven forbid the £215 he ended up at.

Ive never really had either of them in anything but robot mode so Max' less than convincing alt modes have never bothered me. As robots Max has a lot more going on than Metroplex, its more filled out, it has the headmaster gimmick and even the colours are a bit more interesting tham Metroplexs all white, but because I got Metroplex first I never got that wow factor from Max.

Conversation bumped to the Max thread, cos.
I think the robot on Max is great, no real complaints there.
The Battleship mode is good. Could be improved if the leg ramp connectors had meshed together.
Both improved with the 3P gun.
The city mode is where it really could be better. Doesn't look like the existing city, just the mistransformed version from the catalog. Needed long arm ramps that reached the floor and longer shoulder ramps.
Japanese version is worth it IMO. Better coloured legs and the sounds are great.

The city mode is poor as there's nowhere for the legs to go and look good
The battleship mode doesn't have enough panels to cover stuff so it just looks like he's lying down. I mean given his size you'd think they'd be able to tuck more panels there
BUT I do really like his robot mode! I sort of wish the'd have just kept the same transformation as Metroplex!

The Battleship is comparable to the original though.

Needed long arm ramps that reached the floor and longer shoulder ramps. This is poking a memory from the review that where the ramps are mounted on the shoulders there should have been longer ramps. Having thought about it if they wanted a different base mode it needed to be stunning and this isn't.

The Battleship is comparable to the original though. You say that like it's a good thing! Honestly though, whacking on some windows on the legs and making them form proper towers would fix the city mode, and a few more flaps would fix the battleship

Phil *LOVES* the original Max Battleship mode all the way back to it's only comics appearance in US 47/8, with Blaster and PM Op standing on it. It was the only glimpse I got of what he TF'd into for years!

Max's city mode just looks like a dude doing yoga.
Granted the original's two modes were barely more than that, his city at least ended up actually looking like a city.

Shall we have a book on if they'll do a Power of the Primes Grand Max repaint with a Pretender shell for the Titanmaster?

Oh my god we can only dream. But then again we never got a single Metroplex repaint, which was a shame I feel these SDCC repaints are a wasted opportunity Also waaaaaaaaaait, there was no SDCC Trypticon was there???

It's a shame. I was enjoying the 'this year's super big mold gets blinged up a bit' that they'd been doing for the past few years. I guess SDCC Max did badly across the board last year!
