I've watched the trailer lots and lots and lots and lots...
You don't think this is the most important Marvel film yet, do you...?

No.
(And now people must.. pick a side!)
I enjoyed the trailer but hoping it undersold itself a bit and we get more depth in the actual film and a great script (like with Winter Soldier trailer vs actual film) and not just lots of fisticuffs.

I'm sure they'll be plenty of depth in there, it seems to be a very personal Civil War. Darn exciting.

Bought CA Civil War Prelude for completeness. I knew in advance that the book would be mostly comic adaptations of previous movies (Iron Man 3 and Winter Soldier), unlike the Ant-Man Prelude book. However, the Iron Man adaptation is the poorest yet, as so much of the story is cut out. The story arc with the kid is cut out of it completely, and so is Pepper's fall to her 'death' at the film's climax. Oh well.

One can only hope that Doctor Strange takes up the cheese slack if Star Trek fails.

Randomly ordered thoughts on this film. Best film Spider-Man ever. All the fun, none of the angst. In two minds about whether or not they were right to call it a Captain America movie rather than an Avengers or just plain Marvel movie. I can see arguments for both sides. A bit like the civil war itself. Although on balance I am firmly on Tony's side. Politician or superhero, no-one who wants to claim the moral high ground and be a role model should consider themselves to be above/outside international law. Still can't understand why Scarlet Witch hasn't been arrested and prosecuted for all the death and destruction she caused while working for Hydra and Ultron. Unlike Hawkeye, Hulk and Bucky, she wasn't being mind-controlled when she did bad things. When I saw the film for the first time on Friday (2D), I thought Tony was right up until the final act when he went all revengey. But when I saw it again today (3D), I don't think he was trying to kill Bucky. He had a hundred opportunities to do that during the fight. With his shoulder shooters, chest cannon and lasers, he only had to think it and he'd be dead. I think he wanted to beat him senseless and then take him in. And remembering all he's done, Bucky should indeed turn himself in. But the great thing about this film is that you can see everyone's side of it. No-one's all right or all wrong. (Unlike BvS, where the conflict is a big mistake and all is made right when they discover both their mums' names are Martha.) And it's nice to see that Cap isn't perfect, which he basically has been in every film up until now. More random thoughts: This is the first film in which I've found Hawkeye to come across as the idiot he is in the comics.
I like the way they used the Iron Man 3 theme in the Spider-Man sequences. It makes the Tony/Peter relationship feel like a sequel to the Tony/kid relationship in that film.
Spider-Man is awesome in a fight, and makes it look like he isn't even trying. He runs rings around everyone and can walk away from pretty much anything anyone hits him with. Love to see a Spider-Man/Hulk or Spider-Man/Thor fight in future films.
I can see why Scarlet Witch needs special prison arrangements like Magneto, but Falcon, Hawkeye and Ant-Man are not 'enhanced' humans. Without their equipment, they're just normal guys.
I'm glad Rhodey didn't die. Is Martin Freeman's character, Everett Ross, any relation of General Ross? I know that in real life unrelated people can have the same surname, but it is generally avoided in fiction... Martin

I felt the interesting plot idea for why Cap and Tony could be on different sides seemed to be completely ignored halfway through in favour of an overly complicated supervillain plan of utter nonsense. Remove that, thus cutting an hour of deadweight and remembering what the plot was actually about, would have been a far more interesting film. Also, as much as Spider-Man was great (the right approach to that character in films at long last and a fun performance by an actor who actually looks like a teenager for once for that type of role) his inclusion adds nothing and slows the film to a grinding halt with a very awkward AND HERE IS A TRAILER FOR ANOTHER MOVIE COMING SOOOOOOOOOON scene which felt like it went on for a very, very long time while the plot went and died in a bath somewhere. Pacing!
I'm not sure if Black Panther was meant to be a comedy character but the actor was so wooden I thought he was hilarious. Every line reading was painful and stiff. I was entertained by him but perhaps not as intended!
In text this sounds very negative. The film was ok. It was fine. Some bits were very well done. I'm just puzzled to see it getting the reviews it is getting but tastes differ.
It was in no way a Captain America film though. He was barely in it! Also part of the problem is that Bucky by this point is in no way a sympathetic character I give a toss about so Cap looks like a right dick throughout. Someone just needs to kill that fucker (Bucky).
GAH! The more I think about it the more the film annoys me! But it was a decent watch when it was on, even if deeply flawed.

One criticism I do have of it is What was the plot purpose of the 'framing' of Bucky for a crime he didn't commit, when he's committed so many crimes, and after being captured and re-triggered by the bad guy, he kills a load more guards in order to escape? What moral purpose is served by Cap showing that he was innocent of one particular killing, after he had been guilty of several more since then? (Other than to make Black Panther OK with him at film's end, I mean.) Martin

When they frame him i dont think hes supposed to still be under mind control so it's just him setting off a bomb. The way they justify the rest of what he does is by saying he was under Hydra control.
I enjoyed the movie but I wish people would learn that Tony or the military are NEVER right. Everything he does goes to shit. To echo a couple of things already said, Bucky is a character that nobody cares about and Black Panthers accent was terrible. One of the listings had the Build a Character case including a nice big picture of (Gi)ant Man.

Hey! He was right in this film. It was Cap who wrecked everything by deciding he was above international law. He saved one life leading to the deaths of dozens of others, and his pals becoming fugitives. At least Tony admits his mistakes (his arms-dealing days, his creating Ultron) and keeps referring to them as such. Cap doesn't. Tony saved New York from the nuke, smashed A.I.M., stopped the rampant Hulk, created the Vision, gave Spidey a decent suit, etc. etc. He's come a long way from what he was when we first met him. Here's my current ranking of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, having seen all the films at least twice: 1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier 2. Iron Man Three 3. Iron Man 4. Captain America: The First Avenger 5. The Incredible Hulk 6. Iron Man 2 7. Captain America: Civil War 8. Avengers: Age of Ultron 9. Avengers (Assemble) 10. Ant-Man 11. Thor 12. Guardians of the Galaxy 13. Thor: The Dark World If I did it again tomorrow it would be different, but it would always have the Iron Man, Cap and Hulk films as the top seven, the Avengers films and Ant-Man in the middle, and Thor/Guardians at the bottom. He wasn't right in this film either. He jumped into bed with the military and government who wanted to politicise them the first chance he could after sitting through a presentation that clearly showed the world would've been taken over by hostiles a few times without the Avengers. Then immediately led a mission to kill Bucky without trial when it turned out he was innocent.
I'm not great with stuff like that but didn't Jarvis create Vision by releasing his conscious state when Ultron tried to destroy him, Ultron which was created by Tony and nearly destroyed the world, and Jarvis then connected with the infinity stone which released him as a solid state in Vision? As for Spidey, all he did was brainwash a child into following his agenda. That's the kind of thing the Nazis did. Several times Tony has been told not to do one thing because it would end badly but hes carried on and he's always been wrong and had to have his mistake sorted. Nobody comes out of this film clean but Tony has rarely came out of any of movie without having made an absolute pie of something.
