Went to logon to the laptop and discovered the KB was producing different characters to what I was typing (s -> ] or ENTER -> ]) being quite common ones.
Knackered KB or something nasty on the machine? Can't see any suspicous recent installs, virus checker didn't flag anything but there were an awful lot of registry errors suddenly on the machine.

So....
ran malware and spyware scans and didn't find anything too suspicous. They required a reboot afterwards and when the computer cam back up it went BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP a lot at the trying to find the HDD (well in my case an SSD) stage.
Not to worry thinks I, I've still got the HDD I swapped out. Exactly the same thing happened.
It was then I asked Jonathan the right question "Have you spilled anything on the computer?" Turned out he'd knocked a glass of water over it earlier today
It's gone in the airing cupboard in the hope it might dry out but I'm a little worried that having used it post incident it may have had some permanent damage :-(

What is a KB? I thought that was a defunct US retail chain that sold the mighty Machine Wars line!

I don't think you can do more damage, the water will have already caused the damage(if it was going to)
