Did a search and couldn't find a LOTR thread already.
Does anybody else collect LOTR stuff? I was sorting out my collection the other day and found a massive box of LOTR figures I collected a few years back and had added to more recently. Ranged from the bog standard up to the various Orcs & Uruks and the horse/Beast with rider figures. Also a MIB electronic Sauron with a tiny One ring and 9 extra rings which I think are supposed to represent the ringwraiths rings. Not sure if theyre meant to be with it or if the person I bought it from had gone out their way to collect them as well.
Quite an enjoyable range to collect as well, there's a good range of characters and levels of figure but not that many that it'd be impossible to have an almost full collection fairly easily. There's a couple of half decent sublines, the Armies Of Middle Earth range has some good sets.
A couple of things I've always found with is the prices for them go in cycles, fluctuating wildly between worthless and bordering on overly priced, and there's always a lack of boxed figures. I suppose the last bit helps with the dilemma of whether to open it or not.
One things that's missing is a cave troll so that's probably my next LOTR purchase.

I would have gone down this route because I've always been a Tolkien fan, but the toys never looked very good to me. I suppose I was looking for something more accurate in the seven inch line than the figures I saw in shops.
With human figures it's all about accuracy with me, which is why I've turned my nose up at the two Game of Thrones lines and also the Star Wars black series. They just don't look good enough. Although I'm tempted to get a Ren and a couple of First Order troopers from the new Disney shop exclusive elite line. I've had the Ren in hand and it's better than the black series one.

The human features are probably the weakest part of the line. Facially they aren't upto much. Half of the human characters have beards and/or helmets so they get away with it a bit and the Orcs are fantastic. The Lurtz figure that's firing his bow at Boromir is brilliant, right down to the focused grimace.

I loved the Toybiz line, I thought the detailing and ingenuity of the mechanisms was fantastic at the time. Light years ahead of some others. I had all but three pieces, sadly most have been sold very recently as I would never have the space to display it all.
