Just seen news on new console for later this year. But looking back
I had GBA Sp & Gamecube. Have not got a Wii or Wii U. What is the full differance between the 2 consoles or is it just the controller? Should they make them backward compactible? I know you can play Gamecube games on Wii with the controller plugged & my super Wii Gamecube memory card which is massive with space for saves. But can you play them on other consoles? (ie on the Wii U)
Anyone got one of those GBA device where you can record a game on it to play?
Not played on 3DS yet.

The Wii U is the successor to the Wii, like the SNES was the successor to the NES or the PS4 to the PS3. It's backwards compatible with Wii games and accessories, anyone with a Wii can transfer their digital purchases to the Wii U - though the process is not as straightfoward as simply logging in with an account (you need both machines). Anyone got one of those GBA device where you can record a game on it to play? You mean something like a flashcart? I've got a Game Boy Everdrive that I've transferred my GB/SGB/GBC games to (aside from a couple with compatibility issues). There's a GBA one on the way at some point which I'll pick up.

I've never been a full on Nintendo fanboy but I do own an N64, Gamecube, Wii, Gameboy Micro and an original DS. I did have a 3DS but sold it when it was still worth selling it because I wasn't using it and it part paid for a tablet.
The Wii didn't impress me like the N64 and GameCube did so I didn't bother with the Wii U. I don't have any flashcart/backup devices buy I did think about getting an R4 for the DS a while ago to play some home brew stuff. I think these days what with time being so short I'd just stick to the actual devices and the carts I own. Sometimes on holidays I do crack out the micro and the DS to continue games I didn't finish. The micro is a great in pocket console because it's so tiny.

I've owned a Wii since launch, but stopped using it after a while. This changed when I decided to hack it last year and install my Wii and Gamecube games onto an external 500GB USB disk. Having 50+ games (all legally purchased) available at the touch of a button significantly improves the experience of using the machine.
There's quite a few emulators and homebrew games, but there's nothing that jumps out at me in this area.

There's an interesting video on this at www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuJ5UuknsHU&ab_channel=aGameScout. The win specifically relates to the NTSC version of the NES game. Willis Gibson is the first person to beat the game using a documented bug that causes the game to crash on higher levels. The video suggests the ultimate win would be for someone to complete 255 levels of the game without triggering the game crash, after which the level count resets to 00. However, this is considered extremely difficult due to fall speed, colour combinations and chance of encountering the crash bug. The video shows the final level being completed using software tools.

I was baffled by the BBC article about this yesterday so thanks for sharing.

If beating a game equates to crashing it, I've beaten many computers, many time over the years. If I'd realised it was newsworthy, I'd be famous.

Donkey Kong and Pacman are two of the most notable examples of "kill screens" that are considered beating the game, whereby you've reached every possible level.
Crashing prior to this point Martin is sadly not the same thing.
Now RoboCop C64, that's an interesting one for discussion...

Trying to play my unplayed Wii games.
GoldenEye - when new I got half way through the second level and never found the inclination to come back to it. Having not played the N64 original, I can judge it on it's own. Whilst the FPS mechanics with the WiiMote mostly work there are times when it's hugely frustrating, leaving it failing in that genre and also as a light gun style game (having played a lot with GunCon2s on PS2, there's really no comparison.) Being able to switch up stealth sections and all out assault does break up the pace and when the controls do comply, it is very satisfying. The forced side objectives are a big distraction though, making you slow up progress to check everything less you pass a checkpoint and not be able to return to one you've missed. Still, was fun enough and seeing GoldenEye play out with Daniel Craig as Bond instead of Brosnan was interesting.
Super Monkeyball Banana Blitz - A launch title for the Wii, I'd got 2 worlds out of 8 a whopping 18 years ago. The game also comes with 50 mini games, which were mostly terrible. Having slogged now through the remaining 6 worlds it's clear why I never finished the single player campaign back then. The levels are poorly designed, the motion controls work too well for the related physics, and the camera does no favours. Nudge a wall or start rolling back down a slope so you go in another direction? Better get ready to switch your wrist position at the exact required moment after the fact when the camera decides to change. The WiiMote lacks the precision of the GameCube controller stick to make the control work. And whilst I'll freely admit that returning to the earlier levels after completing World 8 I was clearly better, maybe I just needed to 'git gud'. But, no. The level designs are a mess with little sense of escalation or difficulty curve. Random hyper difficult sections ruining otherwise passable maps. There's nothing that'll get me trying to complete every world without continuing to unlock the secret levels. I suspect rushed for the console launch, it's probably the first instance of Wii shovelware.
Up next Endless Ocean. Hopefully after the hair pulling frustration of Monkeyball this will just be a chill time watching fishies.

Endless Ocean is super chill. I've recently played the Switch version but it just didn't quite capture the magic - the procedural levels ended up being very bland.
We've recently redecorated the games room and I now have all my old consoles on display, which includes my SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii U and PS1. I omitted the Wii for space reasons and the fact I transfered everything on it to the Wii U. Most are just ornaments at the minute, but when funds allow I'm going to get a retrotink so I can play them on the big telly. Interested to see if any of the battery backups on the cartridge games have survived.

Enjoying it, but not wholly sure there's much of a game here. I do get surprisingly excited when I find a new sea creature of significance and even getting a good photo of it, so it must be doing something right.

Got to the end of the main plot. Couple of secrets hinted at by the game script, but not going to follow up.
On to Trauma Centre Second Opinion. Given the precision needed on the DS original, I wonder how this will translate to the WiiMote/pointing. It'd be one to emulate and use my Wacom drawing tablet, but want to play on original hardware.

Wii pointer works pretty well for Trauma Centre (very little lag compared to some games) and the analogue stick choice of tool makes switching easy, aided by the octagon shape the stick sits in (I believe this is why Smash players like the GameCube controller?). Disappointed it's very similar operations and story to the DS original though, but has given me impetus to finally do that final level on that after 18 years. A few of the motion controls are a little flakey too, especially the resuscitation or needing to be too precise with the pointer, and throw in the recaps and interruptions when you retry a level it can get a bit frustrating (yes, - puts it in skip mode, but it's still a hassle).

Finished Trauma Centre Second Opinion. Last few operations I did on medium and easy difficulty instead of hard, too much accuracy required. Not even going to try the bonus X levels locked at severe difficulty. Unofficial coop variant I heard of... Second player is the nurse and plays the nunchuck part picking the surgical tool bring used.
On to finish monster hunter tri single player. I got about half way through the single player game before I discovered the servers were shutting down in a month (2013?) so moved to multi player. On the final night, stayed up until 4am, slept until 8am and dragged myself into work. Dumb times... Dumb times.
Can't remember much about weapon load outs, item use, searching for resources etc.

I finished the Mario RPG remake a few days ago - finally ticked that off the list after about 30 years.
