Before you know it, you'll be dragging her out of nightclubs at 2 in the morning!
I do love Firefly. One of my favourite shows with great re-watchability factor. I also recommend the movie of the show, Serenity. It works fine on its own but you'll get more out of it if you've watched all of Firefly previously.
When I grow up, I want to be Captain Mal!

I've already got my Winchester shotgun ready and waiting for any boys that DARE even look in her general direction... Yeah I loved the first ep of Firefly. But I find I'm mourning it already, as I know there's only 14 eps and the movie. Don't these studios know a good thing when they see one?!

Nope. It's worth bearing in mind that much of the quality of Firefly came from the siege mentality of the creative team as they battled network suits. It was doomed from very early on, so the folk making it just went for it and tried to make a damn good show anyway.
Though more by accident than planning, the series and movie do feel as close to a complete story as could be hoped for. The characters and situations have more of a life to them than in some shows that pump out 20-odd episodes for years on end. Hello, Star Trek: Enterprise, I'm looking at you.

I'm sure all will be well Shockprowl, as long as you bring the young'un up well she'll no doubt do you proud. (Besides, Shotguns are for folk like Doc Holliday who can't hit the broad side of a barn. Better off with a lever-action Winchester rifle. The chck-snap of the action on that should put the fear into 'em).
I'll hold my hands up to having a great love of "Firefly" and its spin-off movie - but then I have great love of the Western so to see them do the Reconstruction era schtick in space worked really well for me. Gave the show a very different feel to most Space Fantasy shows. Loved what we got of it and I find it hangs together quite well - you could do more with it but by the end of the series and the movie there isn't a sense of anything more that _needs_ to be done with the characters. Anything else would just be more story, rather than story that is needed. If you see what I mean.
Did borrow the shows "gorram it" this morning when I discovered that as well as Saturday, they are also working the construction sight on Sunday mornings..... So I gave up and went out for a nice walk up the canal. Just back and got some chicken and stuffing in the oven to go with some Broccolli and boiled potatos. A country walk followed by a good meal and a sit down with a good book- I can't think of a better way to end Week 3 to be honest.

Star is back and very tired but eating and drinking again. We have to take her down the vets once again for more blood tests and also to possibly receive results on the first testing. In the space of a week the poor kitten has had needles, been probed and prodded a lot and does'nt seem to know whether she is coming or going.
If the Leukemia (however its spelled) thing does crop up on the results Zip will also have to go in for tests too.

Interesting what you're saying re Firefly, thanks Doc' and karl, made me feel better about the short run. Just to clarify what I said 'bout not liking 'Country and Western'. It's the music I don't like, I love western movies, gunfights 'n' all! And yes the 'feel' of Firefly is unique thanks to that influence.

Star has got her appetite back, we've got her tuna, mackrel and all sorts of goodies to spoil her with. She is a bit bewildered and lost at the moment but I cant blame her after all she's been through.
Zip has been confused too by it all and just hisses at Star, so we've kept them both at a distance apart for now.
What is concerning me is all this blood test malarky, the poor kitten is striving for red blood cells as it is and taking more blood out of her is surely not helping make her any stronger.
I will be at the vets first thing tommorrow and I will raise my concerns about this because I've already scraped my bank account nearly dry for treatment costs and I don't want to have to pay for all these blood tests if they physically are not helping Star. It is probably a lot better and cheaper spoiling her with food that is giving her strength again.

- anyway, as I was saying. 4th of 5. Been really busy shifts so far as well. Not that it's ever quiet as such. Had a bad job yesterday though. In other news, ordered myself Revoltech Optimus to fight Megatron. Tee hee hee. Mrs Shockprowl and I have started watching the series Firefly on digital versitile disk. Only watched the first ep so far, but really enjoyed it, even though it's a bit 'coutry&western' at times. I envy you watching them for a first time and in the correct order. i watched them as they first ran in the states 5 and a half years ago, bloody hell is it already that old. I would love to have seen the pilot without knowing where the show was heading. I agree with Ralph, as much as I would love to be watching the shows 120th episode right now I wonder if the show could have remained so perfect. well it couldnt really I suppose nor could it have had such epic action as the movie had if that story had been told at the end of season 1 or 2. I've really been encouraged by what you, Doc' and Karl have said re Firefly. I no longer mourn the fact I've only got a handfull of eps and the movie. I, as well as Mrs Shockprowl, now look forward to it as a stand-alone piece of work, and as such we're enjoying it even more! Thanks guys!

Andy - don't know if you've heard the commentaries on the "Firefly" boxed set, Nathan Fillon digresses rather amusingly to ridicule the network's promotion for the series and how silly it made the first act reveal in that first story. Ken - glad to hear that Star is getting her appetite back. I hope it all turns out to be something correctable. Karl

The commentary on the Firefly pilot is very amusing. Nice lack of pretension.
If I had my way I would team up Nathon Fillon and Peter Davison as a tag-team commentary choice for all DVD's, everywhere.

Yeah I love Fillions commentaries, the pilots is almost as much fun as the episode itself. In some respects I was lucky knowing a new Whedon show was going to start while I was in the states I went in to full on spoiler blockage, I dont remember seeing a single add for Firefly before it started (which says a lot, though I didnt watch huge amounts of FOX) though there was plenty of print advertisement. It jumped straight into he Train Job and it does a good job of introducing everyone anyway and is a great fast action paced introduction to the story generally. I wasnt aware that there was an unaired pilot till I got home at Christmas. Then I waited till the DVD release xmas 2003 before I got to see the complete story. I do wish I'd had the chance to watch the pilot without know who everyone as already to see how well it worked. Ralph I'll go one further and say if Who ever goes American, Fillion is the only Yank I can picture in the role. I fear though Fillion will go the way of Bruce Campell and never get the recognition he deserves. Andy

For the same reason Bruce Campbell isn't. Studios have their idea of who a "star" and "leading man" is.
Case in point - Darkman directed by Sam Raimi who had cast Bruce Campbell in the role. Studio said no they thought up and comer Liam Neeson should be in the lead. They won.
Now watch Darkman and every scene Liam Neeson is in and see how woefully miscast he is. He's not a bad actor but did not have the manic energy needed for the role.

Good to hear Elliott, more converts are always welcome. I'm going to have to track down my region 2 set this weekend. Also need to buy the Serenity special edition DVD for the new extras including commentary.
Bruce Campbell was also up for The Shadow, but lost out to Billy Zane. honestly I'm surprised that Raimi hasn't cast him as a villain in Spiderman yet. Unless the concern is that he'll have to much screen presence. I always find the first three feel a little flat for a few minutes after his cameos end. I could picture him as Doc Conner/s amongst others.

Bruce Campbell was also up for The Shadow, but lost out to Billy Zane. I think you're mixing up The Shadow (the best superhero film of all time) with The Phantom there, Andy. Martin

There was a cool comic shop/gallery type place not far from the museum where I found a Dutch Headmasters comic. In 1994, admittedly.
