Hmm. Well, I suppose rebooting the entire line to death at once is more efficient than the "one title at a time" execution performed on the Legion...
Doesn't really impact on me anyway now - both of the "Big Two" have successfully alienated me from buying their current stuff even when it is good.

I thought DC relaunched a while back. New 52 or something?

Yep. It is. As a Legion of Superheroes fan I watched DC make a title radioactively toxic to the extent that I see no realistice chance of it coming back through rebooting.
It feels like they are doing the same thing to their entire line. But, if they want to treat their headache by beating their head off the blackboard...who am I to stop them...

Well, I guess we can call that "fall-back and regroup" eh?
(Not quite a "rout" yet. But it is definitely a retrenchment)

As a retailer, double shipping is a terrible idea.

I'm genuinely curious as why that is (I have very little retail experience).

With comics, we have to order in advance and the books are firm sell, so whatever we order, we're stuck with. The Previews order is done 2 months before the issues come out, but with the larger publishers we get to adjust our orders usually about a month before the issue ships, meaning we generally have some sales data to go by.
With a new series, we're guessing how well we think the series is going to do [based on various factors, such as what title it is, who's publishing it, creators on the book], but by the time we have to lock in final numbers for #2, we've had a week's sales on #1 to help. With double shipping, we're ordering up to 3 or 4 issues without such data, and because it's firm sell, we're less likely to take a chance as we don't want to be stuck with stock. However, if you don't order enough and sell out, you end up losing customers to other stores who may have ordered more.
Secondly, double shipping books quite often loses customers. The publisher is now asking the consumer to spend more money to keep up with a title each month. Take Batman, currently a $4 book, once a month, that's going to change to a $3 book, twice a month. Not a lot of extra cash a month, but it soon adds up. These customers are also less likely to try other books as their money is being tied up just keeping up with the one title [although this is much worse with things like Avengers books from Marvel, and previously X-Men titles].
DC should be putting out less books a month [which they're sort of doing, dropping from the 52ish titles a month to 30 something, but a batch of them are double shippers] and increasing the quality across the board.

I have now seen this twist courtesy of the Intertubes. I giggled maniacally when I saw it. Then I sat there and thought about how "insectuous" and injokish it actually is and I despaired for a moment.
But, as I've long since lost interest in DC's comics, courtesy of their being better versions of some of my favourite DC Characters around in other media it isn't like it is aimed at folk like me anyway right?

Read the comic for full context. Nice art but the writing is exceptionally dull and boring. Now there is a certain audacious quality to The Big Twist which I can applaud but to make that work in execution required a certain balls-to-the-walls approach which this lacks so it falls flat on the page and just reminds you of a superior work instead. It needed a better writer on it.
It's a bit like someone thinking they can take Hamlet and 'improve it' but not having the skill to pull it off.
Not an awful comic just forgettable.

It's a very pretty, very dull book.
Also, it merely delays the inevitable rebirth as Batman is given a clue to the mystery. He will solve it and thus the DCU will be fixed.
Batman ALWAYS wins.

Actually retailers were told this from the beginning, before orders for DCU Rebirth #1 went it, any reprints of it will be higher than the $2.99 launch price, so order enough.
