The new series of Gladiators is set to start in May on Sky One. www1.sky.com/gladiators/Let's hope they don't balls it up like they did with Blockbusters and Treasure Hunt.

It would be hard to balls up Gladiators - it was rubbish to begin with. But, yes, I did watch and enjoy the old series.

Why the smeg has AdBot thrown up "tax calculator", "retirement equity", "pension income drawdown" and "income tax rates"?

I've got 'unsecured loans' coming up from the Adbot which is a bit odd as I thought 'unsecured loins' would be more appropriate for Gladiators.

"Over 55's equity release." Is Wolf in the new series, then?

He doesn't appear to be in the new series but I wouldn't be surprised if one or two familiar faces make an odd cameo appearance somewhere along the line. Referee John Anderson is so far the one from the original series to return in this one.

I see no Jet in this line-up. This displeases me.

I've just watched the first episode of the new series and I have to say it is just terrible. The Gladiators seem too arrogant, Ian Wright can't present a show to save his life, there are only four events instead of five, there are too many ad breaks, one of the new Gladiators - Oblivion has obviously been marketed as the new Wolf but he comes over more as a thug than an enjoyable TV villian and the Eliminator at the end is the worst version of the event I have ever seen.

I otherwise know Oblivion as welsh wrestler Nick Aldis.

Another problem with the show is that it singles out anyone who can't swim. Okay, so most of this country can swim but what if you can't but you have enough stamina and strength to compete on Gladiators - Sky One will soon show you the door. The first obstacle in the Eliminator involves swimming and has the potential to get the show canned. You have to dive into the swimming pool and underneath a girder covered in flames before you reach the next obstacle. If somebody dives too well then they could very easily hit their head on that girder and, because it's covered in flames the accident might be more terrible than what it should be. Sky One are obviously favouring breath-taking effects over safety.

I only got to see the first episode at a friends on Thursday, and I have to say that it was the biggest pile of wank I have ever seen. I am glad I don't have Sky, so I will not accidentally come across that abomination.
Why is it every time Sky bring back and established show, they make it shit?
There wasn't anything I liked about this show. From the minute I saw the Gladiators they looked like rejects from some low budget bondage movie, and with the inclusion of the water events ruined the format of what was once a great show a decade ago. As has already been said by many on the first page, that the presentation just looked awful.
Fair enough I knew the show would have to be updated and new Gladiators etc, but they just changed far too much. The show was so unrecognisable as Gladiators, they may have just named it something else. I was expecting the arena and games to be tweaked version of the originals, but instead they were raped.

My thoughts exactly. They have even gone and replaced the background music as well. The old series had rousing hits by Queen and, er, Gary Glitter while this new one has Britney Spears, Bananarama and Chumbawumba. Not exactly the kind of music I'd associate with a show that pits might against muscle.

The show continues to disappoint me. I watched the second episode just to see how they treat classics such as Hang Tough which wasn't all that bad but almost everything else about this second episode was a disappointment. The first game featured was a terrible one called Earthquake which was so bad it didn't even measure on the Richter Scale. The rules in the Eliminator was another disappointment also. In the male Eliminator there was one bloke who seemed like he would go on to win the show and another bloke who looked so puny he didn't look strong enough to bust a paper bag. The more worthy bloke fell off the handbikes and got a fifteen second penalty which allowed Mr Puny to win the Eliminator. I know there were penalties in the original Gladiators but I don't think they were that harsh. To end the show Sky One produced its Ace card. It told you that on next weeks show one of the male contestants gets seriously injured (the third injury in as many shows which doesn't look good for the series). Thanks Sky One for ruining any suspense that I had for next week.

I don't mind Inferno pouting and flexing considering the size of her chest.

If you like females who have to shave the stubble from their chests then knock yourself out. Literally.

Another disappointing episode has been churned out. The Eliminator was the worst yet with the female contenders going in ultra slow motion and the male event being a one-horse race due to one contestant refusing to start due to an earlier knee injury. Sky One gives the game away again at the end of the show with them revealing that in next weeks show one contestant scores 16 points in Hit & Run.

I gave up watching this new series of Gladiators just over a month ago but tommorow is a celebrity edition and I might consider tuning in to watch that and see how much they arse this one up.

As usual with modern "Celebrity" specials, I have no idea who or why any of these people are.
I had the pleasure of seeing some of the original series at a friends today, which craps all over the modern series. The only episode of this new series I am interested in seeing, is the one where they have Hunter, Saracen, Lightning an done of the other female original Gladiators as contestants.

The celebrity version was just as hopeless as I expected it to be. Instead of proven sporting athletes like the original series had we got b-list celebrities like Bianca Gascoine, Dannielle Lloyd, some bloke out of hip-hop group So Solid Crew and also some bloke out of Hollyoaks. The show felt more like Celebrity Big Brother than Celebrity Gladiators.
I also read the shows viewer ratings on Wikipedia yesterday and its turns out that the first episode attracted 1.5 million viewers (no surprise there) but then lost one million viewers by the fifth episode (again, no surprise there).

The Legends episode of Gladiators comes on this coming Sunday with the likes of Wolf, Cobra and Lightning facing up against the pansies that Sky One has to offer.

I watched he legends episode of the new Gladiators yesterday and I have to say it was the best episode of this new series. The female legends absolutely made mincemeat out of the new female gladiators but the male legends had great difficulty eventually losing to the new male gladiators. The pantomine brawl between Wolf, Oblivion, Ian Wright and John Anderson was also entertaining stuff.
