Indeed he was.
Had a good innings though.

That is sad. Watched Gormenghast recently, and he plays the Captain of The Guard, but pretty much sounded like a Sergeant Major.

Quite a lot of what he did post It Ain't Half Hot Mum is because they effectively wanted Sgt-Major Williams. Terrahawks is a prime example.

Jamie Anderson is involved so should be decent in the event it comes to fruition.

The fact she has to 'come through the ranks' of the Terrahawks is interesting. Makes it sound like a large organisation.

There's something very uncanny valley about those original puppets, freak me out now more than Zelda and friends do.

Maybe Kate Kestrel will drop a new album.
Glad there's a new Terrahawks in production. I've the urge to dig out my old boxset.

The blurays for this are less than £15 on Amazon at the moment. Were they that cheap three and a half years ago when we got excited at the start of this thread? That seems a good price.

The above post led to getting that Blu-ray set for Christmas a month later and having finished rewatching The Tripods I've decided to fill the gap with Terrahawks. I watched Expect the Unexpected 1&2 this morning and two things struck me: one, for an HD remaster from film the picture is smooth but not that sharp, and two, I don't think I've watched this since it was on originally. A while back I got all the BF discs in a sale too, so I reckon this'll be a fun run through the lot.

Terrahawks was shot on 16mm and not all the elements survive so it looks as good as it ever will.

I'd guessed it was 16mm. It's good, much better than SD. It just seems a bit over noise reduced in places. However, it's probably no different to a lot of remasters of 80s films in terms of clarity.

I'm used to broadcast and production orders differing, but there's some whopping differences with this - Go(l)d being an example. S1E3 as produced, but S3E13 as broadcast?!
Does that mean then that all 39 episodes were produced in one go and broadcast randomly? Is there any ongoing narrative to worry about or do I just keep on with the order on the discs? (Which seems to be production order)

Terrahawks is one of those shows from childhood I'm reluctant to revisit properly because it'll never be as good as I remember.

After realising it was on Amazon Prime I squeezed in the first series before it left Amazon Prime, presuambly for Britbox.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. And also by how fucking bigoted the lead character is. He's horrific. A really wtf choice.

One of those things where the context of the time is not the context of today.
Like earlier, having finished what I was watching on the recorder, BBC1 popped up showing a clip from a DIY show. A big banner saying 'originally broadcast in 2004' popped up just before the cheeky chappy DIY bloke commented on the legs of his female co-presenter. Really caught me by surprise, not least that 2004 is still yesterday to me but still a long way from what's acceptable now.

One of my plans for 2020 that was cancelled due to the pandemic was to watch Terrahawks in its entirety, seeing as it's set in 2020. I discovered it on Prime a couple of weeks ago, but still haven't seen any.

Are there any spoilers in that? I stopped watching it, because it was talking about a cliffhange at the end of series 1. Apparently I shouldnt trust Amazons series breakdown.

Oh no! But which series 1? Broadcast series 1 or as produced?!
Hmm. Think I'll just stick with the Blu-ray order and keep my head down.

There were two TV series. One of 26 episodes then one of 13. A third series was planned but didn't happen when the money fell through. Some of that was adapted for audio Terrahawks, which ran for 3 series of 8 episodes each.

It's not really a cliffhanger. Just that something happens which is picked up the next episode. They follow on rather than tell a story over two episodes. -Ralph

Still enjoying this. Finished season one and the associated extras today. I love the fact on the extras docs the credits have tongue in cheek versions of the noughts and crosses credits, especially the one where the cubes think they've won, then the battletank drops on top of them to make a line across three squares :)
