Looks to have come on Netflix today, produced by Dreamworks. Had anyone heard anything about it before now?

It seems to be getting quite good buzz, and not just from the returned-from-dormancy old-Voltron fanbase.
Not having Netflix I've not seen it myself, and even as a long-standing fan of the mecha genre it would be a hard-sell for me. I have seen original Voltron, I came to it with the clear eyes of lacking any childhood nostalgia. The results were...poor... But the word I'm hearing suggests that they have actually managed to turn it into something genuinely watchable.
I'm hearing enough good things that if I had Netflix I'd be tempted to give it a go.

Karl I'll maybe give it a go then. I've been on the lookout for something else after finishing Transformers Prime, although I also noticed the new series of Orange is the New Black is on it as well. It's funny you mention how nostalgia there. Me and a few friends were discussing it and how nostalgia in our heads distorts things we love from our childhoods, they were talking about WWE and the Attitude Era. Everyone waxes lyrical about it and at the time it seemed great but watch it now and it's 90% god awful. I was telling them that I noticed He Man and Thundercats were on Amazon Prime and my initial thoughts were 'Awwwwwwwww, amazing!!!! Get that on right now.' 20 minutes later - 'Right what the hell is this crap? Did I honestly used to sit through this?' I haven't gone back and watched any more, I prefer them as the brilliant shows I remember running home from school to watch.

Been hearing a lot of good things, but given how awful every other iteration of Voltron has been...

How very dare you. Thundercats is beyond reproach. Wash your mouth out with soap and water immediately.

It's done by the same animation crew behind Legend of Korra, so it's definitely gorgeous. I can't watch it until it's on dvd, though.

Hey, I still love both and they have a lot of charm but neither really hold up as good shows away from childhood memories. That's probably where Transformers stands out from most of the rest. It's a good show even now, even taking nostalgia out its still a great watch. Count Duckula as well, you can't beat a bit of Ducky-poos.

Best Duckula is Dangermouse Duckula. In his own series he was a bit hit and miss.

I've watched it. It is far better than any other Voltron, but the series ends abruptly. Word is that the first series is actually the first half-series, so we'll see how that goes. I missed most of the second half of Thundercats 2011 because of similar reasons, if I remember.
I'd certainly recommend it, but don't expect it to be your New Big Thing.

I watched the first episode yesterday. I usually find Voltron to be eternally pish. I didn't even get through all of the first episode of the last revival.
Shockingly, I really enjoyed this! Fun cartoon. I shall watch more!

Up to date on all seasons now. For some reason, season 3 has been cut in half into two smaller seasons. Prince Lotor!!!

Isn't Voltron a type of anti-inflammatory?

Finally got back to Voltron over the last few weeks. I'd lost track of it somewhere in the middle.
As Ive not watched any other Voltrons I cant compare, but I enjoyed it. For me it worked better watched in one go. It introduces a lot of characters that come and go and the original long(ish) gaps between seasons and part seasons made it hard to keep track of what was going on.
If I've got any complaints it that it becomes quite repetative during the middle seasons and despite seeming to be deliberately building to its conclusion from a good way out, it still felt sort of rushed.

I think netflix has too, because I'm still waiting for the final part to be put on dvd. Been well over a year since the middle seasons.
