There's a recent post in Titan Mastery thread by some Mother Hubber, I forget who, who said that the upcoming TM Galvatron is looking good, or nice, or- anyway it was 'pro-TM Galvatron'... anyway this Hubber made particular note that the colour of him was good. Now, call me a bluff old traditionalist, but Galvatron was not, in the majesty of G1, PURPLE. He was predominantly grey. The main offending part of his purpleness to me is the body. Should be grey. Grey. GREY! It got me thinking that, over the years, there have been other toys that have been named Galvatron that look like Galvatron but have been purpled, with purpleness in the body rife (and a 3P one 'n'all). Energon, the crappy little Classicy one...
GALVATRON SHOULD BE GREY!
Surely?

Agreed.
Though to be fair, with Energon we got both proper colors (in Megatron) and wrong colors (in galvatron repaint)

We did indeed. And the grey one really looks the part (Thanks Triple B!).
But still, it was the PURPLE one that was called Galvatron!
GALVATRON IS NOT PURPLE!!!
Where did this purplarity come from anyway?

The movie. Colour bodges are usually the cartoon's fault. He had a grey body in Target 2006.

Pretty sure that was in Energon. As far as I recollect he didn't reverse the name change from the back-end of Micron Legend in Superlink. Whereas he did in Energon.

Yeah, in Micron Legend he was Megatron, and became Galvatron in Superlink. In Armada, Energon, and Cybertron, he would go to Megatron anytime he got a new body, then change to galvatron anytime he slapped some new paint on his ass.
And thus Megatron begat Galvatron who begat Megatron who begat Galvatron who begat Megatron and it t'was an endless cycle of ridiculousness so sayith Primus.

Right, if memory serves me right from eBay searching there's 3 versions of the toy. Well there's actually 4 but one of them is just the bigger version of the same toy.
The grey one is Megatron and the purple one is Galvatron but the Japanese did have one in the Megatron colour called Galvatron. I think under the toy code SD02 so that may be the Super Link version.
Oh and it's me who said he loves the look of TR Galvatron. And I'd do it all over again.
I just really like the deco on it. Not as much as I love MP Ghost Starscream but I like it all the same. I'm not a big stickler for 'this character needs to only be these colours', well i am sometimes but only when it suits me, if a toy looks good that's usually enough. Having said that.......and I don't mean to set anyone off here cos I get the feeling im pretty much on my own on this one......the character of Galvatron has always been purple with an orange barrel going back to the 86 movie.
The G1 toy looked nothing like the character but was a great toy and I have one on display. I'm still looking forward to finally getting a toy that's purple with an orange barrel.

There were two energon molds. One for Energon, and one for Superlink. Both came in both colors. Energon was Super/Leader Class, while the Superlink was scaled down to somewhere around Ultra Class.
The Superlink got a limited western release as a TRU exclusive (that I never found, fuck TRU exclusives), as Megatron in a twopack with the Superlink Deluxe Optimus mold. The Superlink also got a minor retool into SG Megatron (modeled on Marvel G1 Megatron with the black helmet), for Botcon.

Ive got both versions of the grey one, I'm sure both are named Megatron as well, but I didn't realise the Superlink (was it called Powerlink over here?) was only in the 2 pack. There's plenty of them on ebay as well so never thought they were an exclusive. So over here both versions of the grey one were called Megatron but in Japan it was called Galvatron and the purple one was called Galvatron in both regions? Have i understood that right?

Purple!
Eh, I'm with you on the grey front, being more accurate, but alas, I have to agree with Bazza - I just like him more in purple. I guess I just have a thing for big, purple weapons...

I usually go with toy and comic accuracy over cartoon but in this case I don't mind either way. I remember watching the Movie in the cinema my first thought when Unicron created Galvatron was "stupid cartoon have got the colours wrong!" but as (in this rare instance) the actual characters came before the toys, then I can go grey or purple. In fact, I think of grey Galvatron as the one that travelled back in time (TFUK) and the purple one as the alternative one that didn't (Rythems Of Darkness and the cartoon).

Megatron is grey. Galvatron is an upgrade of Megatron hence... shiny silver.

Megatron is grey. Galvatron is an upgrade of Negation hence... shiny silver. But toy Megatron is shinier than toy Galvatron.

don't show bazza that hell have to go buy them all now Haha. I have both western versions of Megatron already. The Galvatron is as rare as rocking horse poop so I don't hold much hope of finding it at a reasonable price, I did miss out on one that went for about £20 back when I first bougut both the Megatrons because I lost phone reception as the auction was ending on ebay. I won't bother with the Japanese versions but I will admit to having looked for the SG Megatron already since I found out it existed.

I was looking to go to my first TF convention this year but I've got that much on in the next few months that time and money (and probably Mrs B's patience) are too tight. I'll be stuck Glasgow Comic Con in September. Not very glamourous but it'll need to do for this year.

Galvatron from Target 2006 is the definitive Galvatron but crazy cartoon Galvatron is cool too. Technically it would make sense for Galvatron to be grey if he is a reconstructed Megatron . Ironically grey Galvatron is (going by Lady Bird and the Tech specs) not Megatron but just city commamder or military leader or something and so could be purple but isn't while cartoon Galvatron is Megatron but is purple.
