Just occured to me that, for a G1 revamp, the IDW set-up does seem to borrow some stuff from RID:
* In both, the Autobots purposefully arrived on Earth in secret, blending in with their car forms to walk among us unseen. Before this, Megatron and his forces have ravaged hundreds of worlds.
* A Maguffin that causes the Decepticons to be here, which was sent to Earth thousands of years ago by the Decepticons (Maximus/Ore-13).
* The Autobots can go from their base to anywhere on the planet due to a transport network system (Space Bridge/orbital bounce).
* The use of hologram humans (Tai/avatars).
Can Astrotrain being forced to hold a falling tower up be far behind?
