So what do you do with the ones that don't have numbers?

While I am at it, the biggest mistake Star Trek novels made was dropping the number system. Bugged me the US and UK systems were different. Well, they kind of had to be - otherwise the first book that was published in the UK would have had a double-digit number or something, and they'd have jumped around madly from there... Karl

2000AD shop sale purchases arrived today. The Sarge vol 1, Trigan Empire vol 4 - both half price - and Major Eazy Vs the Rat Pack hardback for just £3.75. Almost got all the Battle collections now I think.

Scream! is 40 years old this week. It's been advertised in the last few issues of 2000AD and Eagle with postage stamp sized images, but 2000AD #361 has a full page advert whereas Eagle this week doesn't mention it at all. It makes me wonder how much competition there was between the titles - did the editorial teams for Eagle and 2000AD fear the arrival of the new horror comic? I'm wondering if there's any coincidence that the current Judge Dredd story is the Haunting of Sector House 9.
Anyway. I've dug out my old copies to read alongside Eagle and 2000AD. They're in truly in awful condition because stupidly at the time I cut out the back page poster images, but given the prices now of those particular issues I don't think I'll be going in for replacements! The archive edition next month will be a suitable alternative. Really looking forward to that.

I am tempted by the big archive book but need to wait and see how work situation plays out.

It's not cheap is it. It looks to me like the standard hardback will still work with a subscriber 50% discount voucher if you have one, that's the route I think I'll go. The exclusive one is voucher exempt but it doesn't say that for the normal one.

I like the idea of a full comic's being in one volume. They saw me coming.

Having seen some of the kids comics art and some more of the girls comics art with Gav at the weekend there, I think rebellion need to pull the finger out and get more of the girls comics stuff into press, and DC Thomson should follow suit.

I have a pile of the girls comics stuff Rebellion have put in print and it's mostly excellent material.
Still patiently waiting for Bella at the Bar volume 2. It's been years since volume 1...

The current 2000AD Thrillcast has a nice interview with Ian Rimmer and Simon Furman about Scream. It occurred to me that the death of Scream in summer 1984 and the subsequent move those two made to Marvel meant Transformers could become the comics behemoth it did in 1985. If there hadn't been an NUJ strike and Scream hadn't become a scapegoat, conveniently axed to prove a point, Scream could have become a 2000AD rival and Transformers may have taken a different path.
