Now, this new MP Megatron will be the same size as MP10, surely? Which will make the alt-mode very odd indeed... And a rare example of a Transformer that is actually a larger scale than the real thing... :-) Karl

Same was true of MP-05, though. Which was also odd.

Yes. It was a little strange. Amusingly it has just occured to me that we've never actually had a gun Megatron that is actually 1:1 scale with the real thing - the diaclone is slightly undersized, the first MP is oversized and the classics one is very undersized...

That looks about spot on to me. Valid Apollyon replacement. That face is even more Fenella than Menasor though. Pleased to see the proper stock and barrel accessories.
Yes, very nice.

If he were smaller, or his head and legs were black, I'd want it.
It looks like his chest isn't part of his alt mode. Like it's an extra clip on piece that's added after it transforms.

WOW. That is awesome. It's about bloody time. Well done design people. Yes, beats Apollyon (sorry, Old Friend, I'll keep you for your mind-control helmet thingy...). I'm over the moon with that. Very clean. Some shit going on on the top of his chest, under his head, from the downward angle, but... Damn Good Effort. Wonder how much he'll be....
He's going to be as light as a feather though, isn't he?

Under the list of translated accessories it mentions the clone control headgear so it may actually come with that too.
It will be light, but it's got the stature that Shockwave didn't have because of his short height. Megatron looks chunky, Shockwave always looked too slender.
That translation also suggests the Energon mace is posable, as in the chain is flexible but holds the position you put it in.

I'm scared by what's under anyone's face.
Looks like we're heading for a glut of MP releases like the start of the year. They need to get these spaced out better.

The folk who make MP's can't win though. If they're spaced out, people scream. If they come out more often, people scream.

Yes, but there's a difference between doing one every two months for a year and dropping loads close together at either end. We've got Primal, Inferno, Grapple, Cheetor and Megatron all in the next three months - more if you include the mall exclusive jets, which is exactly what happened this time last year. Releasing the same number but equally spaced would sell more, surely?

Now that *is* very nice looking.
Except... except he seems to be coming in Anime colours immediately. As opposed to a proper silver. Which is disappointing. Someone seems to have forgotten that the animation versions were what they were because of the limitations of budget and the medium at the time. The colours aren't meant to be flat, that's just all they were able to do...
The other question is: Will they one day re-release him with a black helmet? And aviator eyes? Given I'm still waiting for a little redheaded Ratchet, probably not. But you never know. Especially since there isn't anyone obvious to repaint him into. (Apart from maybe Browning. And given we got Marlboor, that's not unlikely.)
And of course he's still not a *true* Masterpiece because you can't strip him and turn him into Galvatron. But one thing at a time. ;-)
That all said, he does look REALLY nice. And I love all the options offered by his accessories. This, much more than Ratchet, will be hard to resist whilst I wait for a repaint that may never come...

I think Takara have shifted this line now to cartoon homages above anything else. Changing Red Alert was just an excuse to put the toy out again because of Inferno. Everything about this Megatron says cartoon - accessories, faces, style, down to the movie wireframe head. This isn't the trigger crotch, hip canon original.
Imagine them doing Sideswipe or Prowl now. They'd look totally different.

It is a bit weird we've not had a tank MP Megatron. I mean, I know it's not his most iconic mode, but it would be something Hasbro could sell in the US so they'd get more money from the mold, and opens itself up to repaints (silver, green and purple) and remolds into the million other tank characters. Meanwhile you can get one use out of the gun mold, and only in the Japanese market.

IMeanwhile you can get one use out of the gun mold, and only in the Japanese market. Not just Japan I don't think. AS far as I know there are quite a few other countries in asia which don't have the same laws on replica firearms that the US and Europe does, so I would think that there are other potential markets in the region other than Japan. Judging by what I've seen of the airsoft market most of that entire industry seems to base itself out of Hong Kong, so I'd suspect that areas like that and the other Special Economic Zones were potential markets, even if mainland China itself wasn't. As has been obvious for quite some time, the current direction of the MP line is for figures which evoke the Sunbow cartoon as much as possible so as Megatron was a gun there that is what you get. It's also more marketable where these things are made to be sold, ie Japan. G2 was over there, yes, but may not have the same draw in their collector market. Indeed, the draw for G2 in the Western collector market could be said to be minimal: look how quickly those G2 CW box sets went on sale.
Tank Megatrons pop up in other lines but I will eat my socks if one pops up in the MP line as much as I would personally be chuffed to see it happen.

It'll be sold in all the Asian markets, and they know a large number of people will import it, Hasbro will still make plenty money. And I doubt it'll be one use. They have the options of toy colours, Megaplex colours [blue inner legs], black with brown grip, gold.
