Is there anybody out there tht likes the films of Ray Harryhausen? I've got every single one on DVD and love them - some more than others.
Harryhausen is a genius in the world of moviemaking and his creatures in such films as Sinbad and Jason and the Argonauts look a bit dated to today's standards but they revolutionised special effects in the industry.
My favourite is the Mysterious Island even though there arn't that many decent dreatures in it - it's the plot that keeps me hooked. In terms of creatures I think The Golden Voyage of Sinbad does it for me.

There appears to be an error and it won't let me vote but Jason and the Argonauts for me. Like you I love Harryhausen films and enjoy them more than many of the rubbish cgi-laden films of the modern era.

Yep. The poll appears to be battle-damaged and non-functional (nothing for it but to strip the ammunition, parts and protoculture from it).
For me it would have to be "Jason and the Argonauts". Both Talos and the fight against the skeletons are absolute masterclasses. Harryhausens work represents the pinnacle of a lost art - like some others I would say I would prefer to watch a handful of his stop-motion skeletons in action than an army of CGI ones. What these days is done with the casual application of technology and a lack of understanding of the chemistry of a scene was a process of artistry by those techniques. Any one of Harryhausens beasties has a sense of presence to it missing from some of the weightless cartoon creatures than infest modern films.

The man is a legend and I love his work and have done since I was a nipper. 'Jason and the Argonauts' remains the finest film he lent his talents to, for me.

I second that opinion on Harryhausen's work being better than todays CGI stuff. These days if people want to create a creature they just spend a few hours behind a computer whereas Harryhausen spend months with his creatures. Another thing about modern day CGI films is that a decent story was substituted for sparkling special effects - something that wasn't even considered when Harryhausen and his team were working on the films. If you're a big fan of Harryhausen's work I reccommend the book 'Ray Harryhausen - An Animated Life' by Ray Harryhausen and Tony Dalton. This book covers all of his films in great detail and also some of his other work including the stuff that never made it to the screen.
As for the poll - I don't know why it isn't working. Maybe Andy can sort it out because it worked for me.

Oh, I would say there's still a lot of craft behind good quality CGI. It's just different. I do prefer stop-motion, models, etc. I just find it easier to appreciate.

Just reported it to Proboards so we shall just have to wait.
Still it looks like Jason and the Argonauts is a winner with the Hub so far.

I can make the polls work globally but it means removing the ability to embed youtube clips into posts and I'm loathe to do that as youtube clips are used more than polls. So if folks want to vote, go into IE or even perhaps Opera and go to the Hub that way.
Firefox users(including me) - we'll just have to grin and bear it for now.
