This big announcement better be worth it. Fiver on UWM 1 & 4. You're on. I bet it's something new series zygon related. Edit: And the last time people got SUPER WORKED UP over a twitter pre-announcement announcement it turned out it was 'Neil Gaiman's next story will have Cybermen in it' which everyone knew anyway.

This is probably less exciting than the 'Neil Gaiman is writing a Cyberman story' one. Someone needs to fire the BBC twitter person. Or teach them appropriate levels of hype before they just piss people off.

While that obviously isn't the kind of announcement the die hard Doctor Who fan is going to get excited about, I'm interested for a different reason. Patrick Ness is a bloody good YA writer, and I'm excited about the prospect of him writing a TV series. In fact I'm almost disappointed that if he is doing TV that it's Doctor Who related and not something of his own devising. There is potential for this to be really good, but I daresay the Who connection will actually damage that. Anyone interested in knowing what his stuff is like should read The Knife of Never Letting Go. One of the best YA books of the current generation.

If I'm going to be cynical (and half the reason most people don't seem to care one bit, aside from the dumb MOST IMPORTANT NEWS EVARRRRR hype) the article says 'new villains and aliens', it's in Coal Hill School but no mention of any Who characters appearing which you'd expect would be the first news in a spinoff announcement... could this literally just be a completely unrelated project they've slapped the Who branding onto?

Words can not convey how underwhelmed I am.
I also really really really hate the term 'Young Adult'. Just an irritating way of saying 'Teenager'.
And who gives a flying fuck about Coal Hill School??? Which child ever watched Doctor Who and thought they would rather watch a series about the fucking school..? I guess Clara can't end her DW time back teaching there then...
Amusued by the mention of The Hunger Games in connection with this pish.

And you never know, Class might be a Thing. I don't think it's going to be much of a Doctor Who thing, but I do think it could be A thing. I have huge faith in Patrick Ness; he is a brilliant teen writer. One of the best of this generation and definitely the right man to adapt the current trends in YA film and literature into a TV series.

Fucktones of BF though! The War Doctor! The Tenth Doctor and Donna! And of course more of Jago & Litefoot, the finest spin-off of all. And you never know, Class might be a Thing. -Ralph That is true, though it all costs extra money! Genuinely the only reason I have a tv license is Dr Who. It's the only thing on tv that I actually watch. Same here. The only other show I can recall turning the Iplayer on in the last year was the BBC4 retro kids tv night. -Ralph

If it focuses on the school I'd probably agree, but not if that's just a backdrop to the actual story. Like how Buffy isn't a teen drama set in a school library.

Sounds a bit like the BBC trying to go after the Misfits type shows Channel 4 have done.
It'll be good. Trust in Ness, he knows how to write this type of stuff.
