I'm still wading through Krikketmen when I'm not trying to keep up with the weekly deluge of periodicals. This week was a Retro Gamer week, and that's always a dense read. Class 2 might be next.

It's frustrating because I love the writing style. It's very Adams and I really like the portrayal of the Doctor and Romana, it's just there's no story to feed that into so it becomes relentless and directionless.

Oddly this is written in the same present tense style as the Stone House. I'm wondering if that was an editorial decision. So far we've had extreme, unpleasant and unexplained violence followed surprisingly quickly by a disappointing explanation for said violence. Obligatory references to gay sex and loads of quips from Quill. Feels closer to Torchwood than Class but there is a smidge more definition to the characters than Stone House.
Still not something I'd voluntarily read though.

Joyride finished. On the whole I think Guy Adams got the tone of that one right; it'd make a better TV episode than most of the TV episodes did. Lowlife chancer discovers alien mind swap technology and starts a business offering ne'er-do-wells experience packages where they can randomly swap into someone else's body. Cue suicides, murders, sex and ballet classes. Apparently this is what people do if they get a chance to use someone else's body to do it. Class crew get involved when Ram's body is swapped into, with decidedly un-hilarious consequences.
There was potential for this - the idea of an elderly lady wanting to swap into the body of a teenager so she could again enjoy dancing is quite poignant, but the bulk of the characters in this are just nasty, including the guy who swaps into Ram's body so he can indulge in his fantasy of having sex with young men and his wife not find out. The violence is gory, the sex uncomfortable, but the plot does twist and neatly replays itself from different character perspectives to play with your assumptions. A better read than Stone House, but it isn't pleasant stuff and doesn't really deal with the issues it raises in any depth. This whole universe still feels like an early seasons Torchwood knock off.
