The Dalek timeline is convoluted and doesn't really work across the whole series. Oh god Dalek timeline. Next thing you know, Shockers will be innocently asking what year the UNIT stories are set!!! Year they were shown obviously.

They're clearly in the near future. Also Sarah says she is from the 80's. The Brig references a female PM. Open and shut case.

But explain Mawdryn Undead!!!!!
|
|
|
Post by Philip Ayres on Oct 28, 2016 21:23:45 GMT
That Sarah is from 1980. The Doctor drops her home after Terror of the Zygons and retrieves here a few years late for her in 1980 but before Pyramids of Mars. Only difficult onscreen date solved neatly providing a space for The Doctor to set up Face of Evil
Web of Fear is pre 69, no Victoria Line on Map, station names being different.
Brig has left Unit by 77, Mawdryn Undead.
Female PM is Shirley Williams, alternate political timeline. Just like Harriet Jones is PM 2005 onwards.

Pertwee and Derrick Sherwin said they were in the 80's!!! -Ralph Pertwee was wrong. Sherwin was wronger. Would you trust a man who couldn't handle a time travel series time travelling and led to the largest amount of behind the scenes chaos the show ever saw?

I think there's a real third option where they were ONE STEP INTO THE FUTURE, ie 197X+1
And a fourth option where they take place in a crazed post apocalyptic world which has reduced to 70s fashions

And NOTHING Pertwee ever said can be said to be authoritative cos he embelished his stories so much. A few years in the future may have been Sherwin's intention but he cocked that up royally in the only Pertwee story he's in charge!

Had a flick through the new BBC official book Whographica. Clearly shows the UNIT stories as taking place in the 1970's in a graphic.
Sorry, Phil. BBC says so.

Come up with a satisfactory explanation for The Brigadier having left UNIT by 1977 then.
I've explained how the inconsistencies are resolved with my point of view, your turn.

Actually UNIT in the 70s was what I was saying, when they were shown. You'll need to be a bit more specific.
I have a problem with that BBC Book as it's "taken inspiration" from someone else's work
