1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 2. Alien: Covenant:- It is a film. Some people made it. It is in cinema's and you can go and see it if you want. I really ought to put more effort into having some sort of opinion one way or another. But everybody else is just phoning it in, so why shouldn't I?

1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 2. Logan 3. Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge (easily the best of the sequels, though the bar wasn't set terribly high) 4. The Lego Batman Movie 5. Kong: Skull Island 6. Ghost in the Shell 7. Fast and Furious 8 8. Assassin's Creed

1. Wonder Woman: By no means without some problems, but an enjoyable film and competently made - which alone would give it an edge over any of the other recent DC films I've seen. 2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 3. Alien: Covenant:- It is a film. Some people made it. It is in cinema's and you can go and see it if you want. I really ought to put more effort into having some sort of opinion one way or another. But everybody else is just phoning it in, so why shouldn't I?

'Colossal' remains by far the most inventive film I have seen this year though it is one of those films it is hard to talk about without giving away what makes it interesting. Completely mis-sold as a wacky comedy. It is not a comedy! It's sort of 'if you did a monster movie as a serious drama about X it would be like this'.
Died a death threatrically. I can see it finding its audience on home video formats.

The Red Turtle: underpar Studio Ghibli related fare. It was just sort of...there. Not bad, just...there. The crabs were the best characters.
Dark Universe: The Mummy - crap.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 2. Logan 3. Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge 4. The Lego Batman Movie 5. The Mummy (went in unexpected directions) 6. Wonder Woman (easily the best of DC so far, would be more praise-worthy if it hadn't repeated a lot of the ideas from Captain America: The First Avenger... and was Chris Pine really supposed to be playing an Englishman?) 7. Kong: Skull Island 8. Ghost in the Shell 9. Fast and Furious 8 10. Assassin's Creed

I know we often have opposite views on films, but the line in the sand is drawn with The Mummy!!! It had no redeeming features whatsoever!

Reviewers seem to agree with you, but hey-ho.
Back to Wonder Woman... I kept thinking "Why doesn't she throw her shield?" and had to keep reminding myself that that was someone else's thing. That shield was just begging to be frisbeed to knock out bad guys.

6. Wonder Woman (easily the best of DC so far, would be more praise-worthy if it hadn't repeated a lot of the ideas from Captain America: The First Avenger... and was Chris Pine really supposed to be playing an Englishman?) Martin Nope, US Army Air Corp pilot, on loan to MI6 according to dialogue in the film. (His appearance in uniform in a photograph near the end of the film confirms his being a US army officer too). Easy to miss though - it was only referenced once in dialogue. I had wondered how they were going to justify his being in a position to crash on Themiscyra when I first heard they were shifting things back to World War One, in the end it feels a bit like they shrugged and went "that'll do" about that part of things. I am undecided on The Mummy. I thought it was clunky and didn't work in places but overall enjoyed it. As Martin said it goes in unexpected directions, that was probably the saving grace.
Im under the impression its the start of another shared universe. In which case, somewhat unfairly, what comes next will probably shade my final opinion one way or the other.

The giant logo which says DARK UNIVERSE does indeed indicate it is an attempt to make a shared universe series. The next one planned is a remake of BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN in 2019.

I am of two minds about going to see this now. The trailer looked like it could be fun enough... but (respected) opinion here...

1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 2. Logan 3. Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge 4. The Lego Batman Movie 5. Transformers: The Last Knight (beyond bonkers) 6. The Mummy 7. Wonder Woman 8. Kong: Skull Island 9. Ghost in the Shell 10. Fast and Furious 8 11. Assassin's Creed
Edit: My cinema list is hardly highbrow, is it? In my defence I have been to the theatre seven times this year including two RSC productions, and I have tickets to see more Shakespeare and even some Chekhov in the coming months.

Having now seen it 4 times Ive decided GOTGv2 is better than the first one.
And today it was preceded by trailers for Spider-man, Justice League, Thor and Star Wars which is an epic collection of films.
Transformers on Saturday.

Once again, Martin and I are the Alpha and Omega of movie opinions. Not really! As with the Mummy I gave it a medium ranking, and we'd be just as out of kilter with one another if you'd given either of the films a 5-star review. More like Mu and Omega. Martin

Oh dear oh no I see what is #1 for McV, When it comes to his film tastes like a horse I say: "Neigh!" I must now gird my loins, And pay the fateful coins. To the fleapit I must scurry, After I consume a comforting curry. Spidery-Man, Spidery-Man, Will he send me to the can?

Spidery-Man felt like it was written by sheep, Perhaps that is why I fell asleep. Six writers it took to create, To be duff was its fate. So the balance between Burns and McV is maintained, And so the Universe is contained.
