Oh very true. Also from a production point of view: it does not look 20 years old. Looks like it was made this year. -Ralph It's unbelievable that Starship Troopers wasn't a post-911 film!

One thing it has in common with Robocop though was in spawning rubbish sequels and spin-offs! Just like with Highlander there should only have been one.

I liked that animated series. God I can't even remember what it was called but i remember trying to chase down the DVDs.
Someone gave me the four TV movie set of Robocop recently. I felt at the time I'd been true friended.

Wait, there's four?
I can appreciate the second Highlander film in a so bad it's good, kind of way. And it causes pain to folk, which is always fun.

Four TV movies, nothing to do with the three cinema films. They were low budget efforts that came some time after the first TV series.

And after the two different (!) cartoon shows. They were the last gasp of original Robocop before the reboot.

Made myself suffer this past week or two. Saw CHiPs whih was sort of funny in places, but felt like large chunks of the plot had been forgotten about.
Today saw GiTS. And that I hope will be the worst film I see this year. Bored out of my skull for the first half. It did eventually pick up, but I could never get used to Johanssons weird posture and mannerism as Major. There was some good stuff but not enough.
Next up Fast and Furious 8 and the Guardians of the Galaxy double the week after.

Saw Fast 8. One of the weaker ones but still very enjoyable and the submarine v cars sequence was just sheer joy to watch on an IMAX screen. Put a grin on my face.
It does miss a certain something not having Paul Walker there though.

1. Logan 2. The Lego Batman Movie 3. Kong: Skull Island 4. Ghost in the Shell 5. Fast and Furious 8 (would be in third place if it weren't for Vin Diesel being crap as always - the scenes without members of the original film's cast in them are all highly entertaining) 6. Assassin's Creed

Just saw it for a second time and I think I agree with Martin. Its a better, deeper film, its just lost the surprise value of the first.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 - A good solid Space Opera film. Pacy, and with a deft lightness of touch to it. Good stuff, and not a bad way to break my cinematic duck for the year so far.

1. GOTG V2 - not as good as the second, still great fun. Once again Dave Bautista steals the show. 2. Logan 3. Assassins Creed.

GOTG Vol2 : Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear oh dear. The most boring Marvel Studios film by a country mile. So lifeless. Nothing happened and then the film assumes the audience are so thick they need a Cat Stevens song blaring over the end to tell us the thematic point of the thing in case we missed the point. Doesn't help that I do not give a fuck about Yondu. I spent much of the first 90 minutes wondering when the plot would begin.

Lady Macbeth: a strange and disturbing little film, which eschews musical scores and expository dialogue for a style of 'point and shoot' camera work that is strangely disturbing. Not sure what I thought of it. Needs more contemplation.

1. Guardians Of The Galaxy: Volume 2: Really enjoyed this. Didn't feel any of the mood whiplash that others have mentioned, but I can see why it would bother people. It's very much more of the same, but for me still top tier MCU.

For me, Iron Man 2 and 3 are the worst MCU films. They're pretty much the same as the first one and that bugs me.

It was just... when the big bad turns out for the third film in a row to be a tech billionaire genius rival, I checked out. Thought it was brave of them to do the Mandarin like that, but that was really it.

Ironman 3 was great. Im not sure Id ever want to watch all 3 back to back due to there similarities, but I mostly blame that on 2.
3 adds enough to the mix to be interesting, 2 didn't.
Worst MCU film for me is probably Hulk, though its not actually bad, its just doesnt feel as much like an MCU film as the others. Not surprising as it was being made alongside Ironman, all the rest have built on Ironmans foundations.
Or Ironman 2. Again not actually that bad but from memory is just a repeat of the first.
After that I'm into Ultron and Thor 2 territory. Films I still like a lot, just not as much as the rest.

1. Love and Friendship 2. La-La Land 3. Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 - starts well, keeping some of the fun and energy of the first in the opening sequence, but then becomes a bit predictable. It also doesn't trust the audience with its heavy-handed underlining of the film's themes at the end. {Spoiler}It seems churlish to complain when you get a big budget movie realisation of Ego the Living Planet, though. Astonishing.
I liked Mantis, I found her charming where she could easily have been irksome if played badly.
I was sad to see Yondu go, I liked his portrayal and with one of the end credits clips we were denied a near complete classic GotG line-up on-screen by a whisker! -Jim
